Infants In Premium Cabins

What I question, though, is the necessity of travelling internationally at all with a very young child. Unless it's a funeral or something you're travelling for, why put yourself, the child and other passengers through all that?

Because why not, a family or parent shouldn't take a holiday by plane because they have a young child. How absurd.

The thread is about babies... infants. 5 year olds are completely different. Its screaming babies that make people annoyed. And even the best parents might not be able to keep them quiet.

As a parent I can assure there is no difference between a baby and a 5 year old when it comes to keeping them quiet (a 5 year old cannot go quiet by feeding though), two weeks ago there were two AFFers on QF82 that can attest to that . Having kids gives you better tolerance skills I suspect.

If you were the incredible supermum in J on the way to Townsville that I sat across from who had a seat for your 1yo son, kept him occupied, was incredibly gracious to fellow passengers, and knew her son wouldn't have a tanty on board (because she flew with him 2-6 times a week since he was 4 months old) I salute you.

Folk like you are always welcome in my J cabin.

If you were the parent of the bratty little ****s on my recent flight to CMB in the back of cattle class on MH, keep flying economy.

Have flown in J and now suites with our infant.. Our very first 2 flights were in economy. As first time parents every flight was a learning experience- hence after our return economy flight we decided time to step up to J...there were moments when our bub was not entirely comfortable but we have got it down to an art now. Our recent flight from BNE-KL-NRT-LAX went off with out a hitch with a number of passengers going "what a quiet baby" (NO- not what a quiet baby -but what skillfull parents in pre-empting situations)..Of course our final flight back in suites(JFK-SIN-BNE) has led me to the conclusion that - All infants should travel in suites- the double bed makes for the kind of basinet they should have for infants...So if you have infants - keep flying J / suites as your heart desires ( Of course the added saving of miles/ points in flying an infant in premium is the icing on our cake. PLanning for suites on emirates next !!

I would prefer not to travel with other's screaming infants or a rapscallion toddler but how many who are complaining have actually tried to help.As I have related in the past QF,VA and JQ despite their policies have seated me next to unaccompanied minors or mothers with young children when I am travelling alone.On one VA flight 3 years ago SYD-MCY I was seated next to a young woman with Ms 3 months and Mr 4.The baby was screaming at takeoff but as soon as mum started feeding her she settled.Mr 4 though wanted attention so he started up.I asked his mother if I could read to him,she agreed and Mr 4 remained engrossed for the rest of the flight.It was good that the VA magazine had pictures of helicopters and racing cars-those keep most males under control,even Mr. Clarkson I wager.

loud/disruptive INFANTS have the legitimate reason of not YET having learned/acquired the social skills due to their (lack of) brain development....ADULTS..WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE??? .. i empathize with INFANTS...i have no empathy for ADULTS who behave in such a manner!! I have several friends with infants who overtly maximize their travel "while we can get away with not having to pay for her/him as they're under 2".

I think it's a great idea to be able to do so.

As many have mentioned - it's the responsibility of the adults to look after said kids and at least make an effort to not unduly impact other passengers.

But that of course is just simple day to day courtesy - which as we all know is sadly lacking in many.

I didn't say you couldn't take a holiday. But dragging a 0-3 year old around with you on a plane and on holiday doesn't sound like much fun to me. Is it that long to go without a holiday overseas?

Infants are easier due to the feeding bit. For me it's ironic that people want to ban infants but then describe annoy behaviours of toddlers and children. Not knowing the difference in the first place really undermines the suggestion.
