I recently learned that Travelclear, a medical assessment service is now used by some insurance companies to give risk assessments for people with pre-exisitng conditions. It's an 'over the phone' interview, so visits to one's GP are no longer required.

I'm just wondering if the 'convenience' also allows for more knockbacks, as I thought one's your GP's report packed more punch. Has anyone gone down this road with Travelclear?

Furthermore, you can only apply for a pre-exisiting 'add-on' 3 months before your trip, and normal travel insurance only from 12 months, so what cover do you have (for cancellation due to a flare-up of your pre-existing condition) if you book our cruise 14 months out and flights at 11 months?

Is an annual policy with approved pre-exisitng cover the way to go?

Thanks for you interest and replies.

I haven't used them, but have just been going through a round of vaccinations. I wonder if vaccinations are factored into the discount?

Yes, I have just been through the process with Travel Clear. I did the phone interview it was very long and intricate for a normal person, they ask a lot of medical questions which should be answered by a doctor not me. They are a company setup for specifically covering a pre existing illness yet they declined me. I am 44 yo with one stent and diabetes. They told me I was very young to have these problems and that went against me in my assessment. They didn't want to give me any specifics about why they wouldn't cover me. I suspect that in their eyes I was a risk, they would much rather take someone with less risk and take money for nothing. I have a recent stress test and doctors letters saying I was fit to travel and haven't been to hospital in over 2 years and still they wouldn't cover me. I wouldn't bother with them. I have heard good things about 1cover though. If your still interested in insurance go their first, I rang and talked to them and in a conversation they said that they couldn't see any reason they wouldn't cover me, but to put in the paperwork. I wish I had found them first and not bothered wasting my time with travelclear.
If anyone knows any other companies for insurance send them through or if anyone has a similar experience with travelclear I would be happy to discuss.
