Qantas Sydney Domestic J Lounge - 𝚂̶𝚊̶𝚗̶𝚍̶𝚠̶𝚒̶𝚌̶𝚑̶ Panini Bar

why is Sydney Domestic J much better than Sydney International J....I'd love to see something of that quality there. Both Singapore and NZ International J in Sydney are way better than Qantas

I don't get the potato crisps (??) - I would understand if they were actual potato fries ... that would seem more deli / cafe style ... but crisps ... I'd rather a bucket with individual packets to select from.

Some feedback though - the two times I have been - I was *pleasantly* surprised that the toasting wasn't like the scenario where the roll is singed and crumbly ... it was warm and crisp, but still relatively soft.

First world issues !!

I just asked for no chips
French fries would be good

Well, at least the price of lemons has come down.

Looks like they're on feta rations this week.... checks sign on door... oh, I guess the consistent inconsistency strikes again!
Plenty of lemons, but it did seem like feta was being rationed as my serving was made to order 🤣

Those new toilets are a dam sight nicer than the old ones too. I wonder if they’ve done this so that they can start the renovation - ie have a second set of toilets so the old ones can be demolished and rebuilt - same with the old food service area.

Any new showers?

Could do a sushi bar, but then again they'd probably squawk at the price.
Horrible idea.

First of all, almost any sushi in any lounge in Australia has nearly always been average to horrible. Usually preprepared, or otherwise with boring fillings, and doesn't taste fresh.

Most people who haven't had bona fide good sushi have a very misplaced idea that sushi is premium food. And if you think people here like to insult NP for using "exotic names of food" rather than being straightforward, do you think describing the ingredients and make up of good sushi is going to be any better than that?

The only way to do a sushi bar would be to have a proper Japanese sushi chef, with fresh fish. Or, at the least have someone similar to those sushi counters they have in Woolworths. The sushi should then be made to order, not just made en masse and put on a cold bar.

Anything less than the above would result in more complaints than the current panini bar, in addition to the high risk of food poisoning.

There seems to be zero variation on the breakfast menu.

Any ideas for different sandwiches or toasts that could be offered for breakfast?

That avocado looks like the same pasty stuff they use on board. I prefer fresh sliced avocado myself, but I understand that's not many people's cup of tea.

Avocado is a decent base, wouldn't be hard to mix up the toppings - they could cycle between soft boiled egg, burrata, chimichurri, smoked salmon, etc.

Some other ideas - bruschetta, french toast, smoked salmon bagels, etc.

The B&E roll is very 'bready' and would be nicer on an English muffin.

Horrible idea.

Agree. Neil has butchered so many Asian dishes at the Spice Bar I don't think he could be trusted to run a sushi bar.

I agree and not just the Spice Bar. In the First Lounge too. The Tamarind chicken and the Kung Pao Mushroom on the previous menu were so woefully executed. The taste was either wrong (Tamarind Chicken) or overpoweringly flavoured (Kung Pao Mushroom). On the current menu, the Dan Dan noodles - bland (he should just copy the CX noodle bar on how it should be done), the lemongrass pork patties is lovely at one or two with the nuoc cham to cut through the flavour but by the third it was OMG, I need something to get this flavour out of my mouth.
Give him credit for some successes though. Long time ago, he successfully delivered the Strange Flavoured chicken (the name is just a literal translation) with just the right amount of sauce on the poached chicken. I keep hoping to see it reappear on the menu.
I also hope the panini bar in only an interim (80% carb horrors) arrangement . Maybe tapas, mezze platters, even pasta with side salad are more appealing.
