On MMB page, you could press the upgrade button for the booking and it will quote you the required number of points. There is (I think) two further clicks/steps before you commit to requesting an upgrade (even then you can cancel at no penalty right?)
So long as your upgrade request hasn't been confirmed, yes.

MMB = Manage My Booking, where all your trips are listed

Ah yes. But I wish to know before I make a booking. I'm afraid blind hopefulness is long gone with me ... replaced by callous self-centeredness. If it doesn't work for me, I ain't booking it!

The points required to upgrade per zone table still exists online, Qantas just made it harder to find with the advner of Simpler and Fairer ™.

I'll see if I can dig a link up.

The tables are there ... link (scroll to the bottom of page)... but I guess I was wondering how I know exactly how many miles QF thinks BNE-POM is. Also I had a vain hope that because the upgrade is only one cabin class (on that particular flight) they may use the Y to PE table. I think (with the help of respondents here), I could safely say I need to use the Y to J upgrade table and the distance is likely zone 3.
