The reviews on TripAdvisor make for interesting reading.

Good hotel, with let-downs - Review of Hotel InterContinental Geneve, Geneva, Switzerland - TripAdvisor

and sadly often mirror what I am about to write.

I didn't complain to the manager about my stay. I just don't see the point as I can't see the hotel changing.

Perhaps I should start with the good bits:

- It was available as a PriorityClub rewards stay for 5000 points/night.
- It has excellent accessibility from the airport due to the No. 5 bus and good accessibility into the city via the same bus.
- There's a well stocked coop supermarket behind the hotel if you need anything.
- it's very close to the United Nations
- Check-in was simple and the staffer friendly.
- I was in a 'renovated' room (more on that later).
- The lobby is pretty impressive and has a business buzz to it.

Now for the mediocre/bad/indifferent bits:
- Generally I found the door staff a little stand-offish. Probably a French-Swiss cultural thing more than it being abnormal.
- Room amenities when I checked in were 2xconditioner, 2xbath spa, soaps, 2x hand lotions. No shampoo could be found. (Later on during a room service, these were swapped to 1xconditioner, 1x bath spa, 1xshampoo, 1xhand lotion and soaps).
- The renovated bathroom was weird. The bath and toilet were a light brown colour and reminiscent of a 70's hotel. They had added wood panelling and mirrors, although do you really want a full length mirror behind a toilet with a mirrored finish flush buttons? There was very little spare room around the basin in the bathroom - storing amenities was difficult, although they do have a couple of clothes hooks.
- They still charged a city tax (of 4.50 CHF/night) even though it was an award stay.
- Desk chair isn't comfortable.

Internet was 32 CHF / 24 hours (roughly $A35).

Now of course the bit that really soured my stay and frustrated me the most (I've posted about it in another thread here too). One morning I unplugged my laptop, put it in the safe but left the power pack/transformer sitting on the desk. I head out for the day, and upon my return later it was no longer there. Searched every drawer in the place, and even double checked my luggage but it was not to be found.

So what possibilities are there? That I threw it in the bin, that someone either accidentally or purposefully removed it from the room, or I'm making the story up. It hadn't been handed into Lost+Found by the time I left the hotel. I'll be watching ebay.ch closely over the next week or so...
