Interesting fare class used in booking MH flights

Now that international flights seem possible my friend in Sri Lanka would very much like me to visit.
KUL has been my main gateway in the past as it offers the best $/QFF SC ratio. However it seems that all MH economy tickets in all categories currently book into Q class (yes even the flex tickets). This class ONLY earns with MH loyalty program (not QF nor AA).

Does not encourage wandering

AFAIK You won’t be getting SCs on a rewards booking.

I believe MH's V class get you SCs for QFF? Correct me if I am wrong please.

Do not expect to get status credits, since points club only gives SCs when flying on Qantas metal, but you may just be pleasantly surprised after your trip ;)

I probably should've paid attention when booking, because I just had 3 MH flights booked in "Economy Flex" per their website come through as ZERO EARN CLASS. Ah well, I guess that's a lesson learned for these weird horizontal fare class products.

Yes ALL the fare classes on the MH online website book in to Q class.....

So really, the only effextive way of booking into an earning fare class is through a travel agent?

... or book 10 months in advance, go through several schedule changes and end up travelling in Y and/or J fare buckets (happened to me ;).

It appears that flying MH Business (J and C booking classes) are best credited to AS (as per Where to Credit, for a sample BLR-KUL-MEL/MEL-KUL-BLR trip in J and C, respectively).

Any reason against opening an AS account and earning to there?
