International Calls for Lockdowns to be Relaxed

The problem with the USA is that New York and New Jersey have over 50% of the deaths of the whole USA.
Some states are doing a lot better.South dakota has just over 2000 positive patients but 80% were at one meat packing centre. They have had 10 deaths.
so the governor from tomorrow is allowing restaurants and bars to reopen but with 10 customers max.

Minnesota where a few of the protests have been has had 3446 positive with 244 deaths. The State Health Dept predicted on April 10 that the State would have 22000 deaths. The University of Washington predicted 360-they appear closer to the mark.
However the Governor has a stay at home order into May,says schools will be closed for the rest of the year and most businesses closed including the Mall of America which is probably known to the shoppers on here.

So whereas severe restrictions should still be in place in NY and NJ they don't make as much sense in some other states just as is happening here in Australia.

They should be alright as long as everybody stays where they are right now.

An article on the Minnesota models & the differences between the two. Found it helpful for a numpty like me to gain a better understanding.

When US sources are saying "schools closed for rest of the year", I assume they mean the US school year, which ends late May/early June. (and return from summer holidays around Labor Day weekend in early September)

In most states they say they have closed schools until the end of the school year.Minnesota though just says to the end of the year

I don't think they know that the rest of the world thinks of the end of the year as being December.

Of course they did! ;)

No they are not organised by big business but, it is pretty clear that Astroturfing has been happening and that there is a small core behind the vast majority of the Facebook protest groups and the new protest websites. The Dorr Brothers. I will let others debate about the merits, or not, of their views and politics as well as whether their business interests may be driving their actions, but it is pretty clear that they have helped instigate, if not drive, the majority of the protests, and that all these groups have not simply just all randomly occurred at about the same time.

On the Facebook Groups:

On the websites:

Suspecting that these were but a subset of a larger corpus of similar domains registered for every state in the union, KrebsOnSecurity ran a domain search report at DomainTools [an advertiser on this site], requesting any and all domains registered in the past month that begin with “reopen” and end in “.com.”

That lookup returned approximately 150 domains; in addition to those named after the individual 50 states, some of the domains refer to large American cities or counties, and others to more general concepts, such as “reopeningchurch.com” or “reopenamericanbusiness.com.”

Many of the domains are still dormant, leading to parked pages and registration records obscured behind privacy protection services. But a review of other details about these domains suggests a majority of them are tied to various gun rights groups, state Republican Party organizations, and conservative think tanks, religious and advocacy groups.

For example, reopenmn.com forwards to minnesotagunrights.org, but the site’s WHOIS registration records (obscured since the Reddit thread went viral) point to an individual living in Florida. That same Florida resident registered reopenpa.com, a site that forwards to the Pennsylvania Firearms Association, and urges the state’s residents to contact their governor about easing the COVID-19 restrictions.

Reopenpa.com is tied to a Facebook page called Pennsylvanians Against Excessive Quarantine, which sought to organize an “Operation Gridlock” protest at noon today in Pennsylvania among its 68,000 members.

Both the Minnesota and Pennsylvania gun advocacy sites include the same Google Analytics tracker in their source code: UA-60996284. A cursory Internet search on that code shows it also is present on reopentexasnow.com, reopenwi.com and reopeniowa.com.

More importantly, the same code shows up on a number of other anti-gun control sites registered by the Dorr Brothers, real-life brothers who have created nonprofits (in name only) across dozens of states that are so extreme in their stance they make the National Rifle Association look like a liberal group by comparison.

The good thing about Australia is that politics is not getting in the way of our approach.

Several years ago I rented a car to drive from Boston to Vermont and was driving along the highway at 10mph over speed limit (not kph) and people were flashing past at way faster speed than me and others tailgating me and honking their horns like crazy. Never saw a police car in 4 days of driving. Didn't see any cameras or warning signs. Very mind opening.
I see you encountered the kind of people lovingly referred to as Mass-holes.

Yes. But the US city referenced just said ‘end of year’. Didn’t reference School. Which for most of the world is December.

If the USA article ( or other USA based media) is about schools in the USA you can be pretty sure they mean their school year and not calendar year even if they just say year.
