Hi all

I have an upcoming flight with QF MLB --> SYD --> SCL and I'm wondering about immigration etc.

The flight is booked as one ticket, leaving T1 in Melbourne, arriving T3 Sydney and transiting to T1 Sydney for departure to SCL. I'm not 100% sure about the process so thought I'd ask here.

Where do I clear immigration?
Are bags checked through from Melbourne?
Given we're leaving from T1, do we show up at the standard pre-domestic flight time, or international time?

Regards

Long flight... (MLB is Melbourne, Florida).

You will clear immigration in SYD T1. MEL-SYD will be a normal domestic flight. Bags will be checked through, you'll have the domestic-international connection bus in SYD.

Ahhh, that would be a horribly long flight, even in J ;).

That's great, thanks for that.

Re: International flight with domestic connection - where to clear immigration

Check-in has now been standardised and closes 30 minutes before departure for domestic flights, but they do recommend you arrive 60 minutes prior (rather than 45) if you have connecting dom-int flights for the day.

Follow the signs to the transfer desk and take the transfer bus from there. You'll need to show your boarding pass. The bus is free. Other means of transport, eg the train will cost you $6.

Once you arrive at the Intl terminal, you enter behind the check in desks. Proceed to departures and pick up the green departures card, then through security (since you already have your boarding pass), and after that, immigration.

.... and pick up the green departures card, ......

Departures cards are a thing of the past - no longer exist, so skip that step.

Visit the check in desks to request Express passes, even if you get some in Melb, pick up a few more.

It is? I last departed Oz in June, filled one out and dropped it in a perspex box just after the passport scan. When did this change?

Hi everyone - resurrecting an old thread as I’m in a similar boat: have got Mel - Osaka via Sydney. Flying Y but have got SG so wondering if the express security lanes are available to us?

Gold Pax are not entitled to express passes unfortunately.

As a QFF gold I am given an express pass approximately 1 out of 3 international trips from MEL. I know it’s not an official benefit for SGs but nice to have at busy times (or to kept in the bag for next time if it’s quiet).

Express lane is still closed at T1 in SYD so moot point.

I have asked Qantas a couple of times but got different answers. If I am checking in bags and transiting in Sydney on the way to Osaka, do I need to check my bags 90 mins before (as per international) or 30 mins (as per domestic)?

The cut off times are the same for a domestic flight connecting to an international flight or just a wholly domestic trip, however I wouldn't arrive at the airport right on 30 minutes prior to departure as there could be a line of people waiting

And if you have arrive with enough time, you can try asking to be moved to an earlier flight (depending on availability) so you can maximise lounge time in SYD...

Actually, according to the QF website, the cutoff in this case is 45 mins, not 30.
