Hi, If anyone can help. I'm worried about my flight itinerary n Nov for my return flight back to AU.

I have a connecting flight (flying from Singapore to Sydney (BA), then (1.5hour layover) to Melb (Qantas)) 1.5 hour seems really short especially when I have to get to Domestic Airport (+ immigrations) + luggage (?).

I called Qantas earlier and they said I don't need to claim my luggage but checking their website, it says otherwise

For international arrivals, a Seamless service is available for customers arriving on international flights and connecting to a Qantas domestic flight. Customers should collect their luggage on arrival at Sydney International terminal. Follow the signs in the arrivals hall to the Qantas Domestic Transfer area. Baggage will be rechecked and you will proceed to the domestic terminal on our airside buses.

Is this true? Should i rebook my flight? (would cost 5-6k qantas points :( )

Also what happens if there's delays and if I miss the flight? Do I have to pay to rebook? or is it covered by Qantas? (Flights are in the same iti booked thru qantas rewards)

Yes you do need to collect luggage at Sydney when clearing Customs and Immigration.

1.5 hours is quite optimistic, although I've rechecked baggage made it across to the domestic terminal in the early am in 45 minutes after getting off the plane. This would be very much the exception though.

As the flights are on one ticket\booking, it seems the airlines have accepted the connection in which case they should reaccommodate if you miss the flight. Although there are many flights between SYD - MEL in the early AM, if you want or need to be in Melbourne by a specific time then you might want to rebook allowing at least 2 hours, some will say longer. The queues at the transfer facility can be very long, but you might get lucky - last few times I have.

The BA flight is first to arrive into Sydney most days which can make immigration very quick.

If the flights are all booked on the one ticket or QF within their connection rules, if you miss the int-dom connection, you will be out on the next flight fuss free. Very regular flights on SYD-MEL so won’t be a big impact. I’d say stick with current plan.

If this is all in a single ticket, absolutely no need to worry, and no need to pay to move your flight.

Whatever time you pop out from your international flight, simply take your bags to the domestic connections counter and they’ll put you on the next available flight to MEL. This will be free of charge on the day.

If this is separate tickets, you may need to reconsider your connecting flight. Let us know.

You are right, you will need to collect your luggage in Sydney on arrival, and clear customs. You’ll then recheck at the transfer desk and catch the free bus to the do,eric terminal.

ohh that's good news, was stressing about it last night lol
yes, the flights are booked in one ticket/itinerary :)

thanks for all the replies, really appreciate it ^^

The arrival time in November is closer to 0700 according to BA, so w one be amongst the first arrivals.
