Hi everyone,

Looking to connect in Adelaide from international (QR) to domestic (VA) on separate tickets, with checked bag, non-AU passports. QR flight arrives at 16:30, VA departs at 18:40.

If the QR flight is on schedule, I believe this could work as there should be no other international arrivals at that time and I hope ADL airport to be faster to navigate.

Could someone give an advice - if that's likely to work or we shouldn't even try as the risks are too high?

We'll get refundable tickets on a later JQ flight as a backup.

In the two hours between arrival and departure, you'll have to clear these - and I suggest minimum timings

* Airbridge hook-up, exit the plane and get to immigration (? 10 mins)
* Clear immigration (? 10 mins)
* Wait for bags and clear customs (? 15 mins)
* Get to domestic check in (not far) (5 mins)
* Clear domestic security (?10 mins)
* Get to departure gate at least 15 mins before departure.

So I reckon its do-able, but only just and with your back-up JQ flight, probably OK. Can you check the typical arrival timeliness of your incoming QR flight (eg FR24)?

That said, I wouldn't do it, as I'd be worried until I got on the VA flight.

Logically if your flight is on time, it’s only a two minute walk to the next terminal. It is not something I would risk though unless it was on the same PNR.

The likelihood of QR running late is low although the last couple of days it’s been 10-20 minutes late - that doesn’t leave much time to “get through”
The impact of it doing so is much higher
At least if you get stuck in Adelaide there’s a couple of hotels in / near the airport to bunk up (like this morning there was fog and all the international flights ran 3-4 hours late)

If all went well you’d likely make a connection flight two hours later as the Immigration area has just the one afternoon flight

Depends also on the volume & mix of passengers as you mentioned a non-AU Passport and just how many questions are asked and checked bags and length of queues etc etc during the arrivals process

If this is the time of the arrival of the flight on Jetstar to Adelaide from Bali then last time we waited an hour for immigration because our luggage was almost last. There's just one passport person then through to scanning if selected. Getting off and through passport scan is quick. It's the next part that is extremely difficult to assess.

Then it is a stair up to Checkin, then security then to the gate. You might make it. Or not. Luck of the draw.

Jetstar from Bali arrives anytime from 5-6pm.

Domestic to domestic a breeze.

But international to domestic remember luggage must be collected and go through customs and then luggage drop before deadline then security again. Not so simple.

If your Qr flight is not late, this connection is doable. I did this last Nov coming off the same Qr flight but had a domestic connection on Qf 3 hours after arrival. I was one of the first off the plane as was in J but had to be manually processed as had come from Aftrica and Smart Gate wouldn't let me through. Although I did have time to check in luggage, I was HLO. 2 hours is tight though. I personally would book the later JQ flight esp if you had Qf lounge access at Adl.

I'm going to have a bit of a similar situation, so just popping in here:
- JQ flight into Adelaide from Bali at 17:30
- QF flight to Brisbane at 19:30
- One PR, probably check baggage, and non-AU passport.

I'm confident to make it since one PNR and QF, as long as JQ is not delayed which is always a possibility. Worst case, one night in Adelaide, which Qantas will take care, won't they?

Any advice is appreciated.
