Re: Any chance of upgrade for family of 5. Adelaide- Singapore and Singapore - London

I dont think silvers really account for much. Unfortunately for people like me.:-|

The only time we were a free upgrade was when Hubby was Platinum, and we were upgraded to business when we were already on an Award flight. Nice bonus.

Re: Any chance of upgrade for family of 5. Adelaide- Singapore and Singapore - London

We have been upgraded all the way from ADL - LHR! One very happy family. We knew 24 hours before our flights so thank you Qantas for the early notification. Our family status silver QP, bronze QP, and 3 children NB. :p

Well done, totally amazing. And here I am as a WP with a zero % points upgrade success rate!

Re: Any chance of upgrade for family of 5. Adelaide- Singapore and Singapore - London

Mr Enigma01au and I are doing the same flights next Tuesday...I hope we have the same luck with our upgrade request! (Please Qantas, pretty please, with sugar on top!!!;))

Re: Any chance of upgrade for family of 5. Adelaide- Singapore and Singapore - London

Thanks you all for your kind comments. We had a fabulous trip and the A 380 business was amazing! We all had a good 7+ hours sleep. I thought people may be interested to know that business and first were almost full on QF 009 with 50 spare seats in economy. Seems as if Qantas is actioning the promised changes for international upgrades by upgrading when economy is not full. Thank you again Qantas and I do hope there are some more reports of others getting similar treatment.:D

I have my fingers crossed for you. It will turn the long trip to London into something special rather than the ordeal of a long trip in economy. Good Luck.

It must be Christmas!!! Just checked "manage my booking" and seats have changed from 25 A&B to 1A&B!!!!:D:D.
Checked Expert Flyer and it showed our old seats as available.
I have been checking a couple of times a day, given that the "New" International Upgrade process (acording to the Qantas Website) says we should get notice "up to 48 hrs" notice, as Mr E is WP. I'm not complaining though...any advance notice is gratefully welcomed.
Also, the OLCI says we can't checkin online, only at the airport...is this usual? I'm guessing it is.
Thanks Qantas.....very happy flyers tomorrow..

Well done! We also couldn't check in online with our upgrade last week. Was very quick check in at airport so didn't really matter. Have a great flight.

Disc Econ or Econ to Business Upgrade

Good morning all!

Long time reader, first time poster. I am planning to make the pilgramage to Le Mans next year for the 24 hour, and want to have it all booked in the next few weeks. I'm wondering if going either Discounted Economy or FF Economy will make a difference in terms of the upgrade request to business I am planning to put in. I am a simple PS, but I am hoping that by putting the upgrade request in 7 months in advance I may be lucky for once and get the nod at the check-in counter. Have enough points to easily cover both the DE or E upgrade. Thoughts?

Re: Disc Econ or Econ to Business Upgrade

Welcome to AFF.

I personally believe time of request has no bearing upon the success or not of a points upgrade being granted.

However, booking class may. i.e. All other things being equal, an upgrade would be more likely to be granted from Premium Economy than from Discount economy.

When one considers the cost of purchasing an 'upgradeable' economy fare (S, V, etc.) is generally lot more then the upgradeable cheapest fares, PE route may be the way to go. Of course there are no gaurantees.

Re: Disc Econ or Econ to Business Upgrade

I have read elsewhere that there is a queue, so if 20 PS go for 10 business seats, it'll be first in best dressed. But if 5 gold go for it before the cutoff period, the first 5 PS will make it etc. I was more looking at the dsic econ vs the Y class fares, not PE.

Full Y may be similar price (or even more in some cases) than the discount PE fares - plus if the upgrade didn't go ahead you would be in PE not Y...

Re: Disc Econ or Econ to Business Upgrade

Also check in the booking conditions as not all discount economy fares are upgradeable.

Points upgrades are generally done in a central facility somewhere, not at the airport so it really does not matter how you are dressed.

Re: Disc Econ or Econ to Business Upgrade

Yeah I found that our some Y fares can be upgraded others not, have current SYD/HNL/SYD as this Red e Deal its not upgradable many other OS destinations are. I should have known better.
