Introducing: Next Generation Check-in

Hi guys,

Our travel coordinator at work circulated this PDF from Qantas (QF is our preferred carrier) which has quite a bit more info re: "next Generation Check-in":

Nope, can't say I've seen this document before myself - many thanks for posting. Gives a good insight into the whole thing.... wonder why QF haven't posted to their own website

One question I'm left with is how existing priority baggage entitlements for QFF/QP members are handled by ramp staff with the etags?

Simple - there's no guarantee that this is all working yet, and will work exactly as described in the brochure. If the press etc. picks up on this then there are at least a whole heap of people who will be expecting QF to deliver the earth, of which they will surely fail.

Well that's true, but it's been communicated to us as customers, so I presume it's been publicly released.
The email our travel coordinator forwarded on was from our corporate account manager.

The email mainly seemed to be introducing mobile check-in, but had that PDF attached.

-shrug-

Cheers,
Mat.

AFAIK QF is in the process of changing their T&C's to reflect this and will no longer be available, obviously because you cannot place a peice of paper to the bag tag.

All useful for domestic travel only.

International travel (or travel on a domestic connector to an international flight) still requires the traditional methods.

I'm hoping that QF did some serious thinking when it came to designing the smart tags for status members and how this will affect priority baggage loading. That, and also the robustness of the tags.

I particularly like the comment in the bottom right

Priority access at any time during the boarding process.
Chairmans Lounge members, Platinum Frequent Flyers and customers travelling in Business.

and the enhanced security.

Not sure that the Auto Q Card check-in is of much benefit (I will use online or mobile normally) but it probably means that you don't need a boarding pass or sms message, you just use the Card.

Ah yes. No more of this PS, SG or QP riff-raff blocking up the lines. :p

Just kidding.

Besides, if priority boarding were created, it would need to be opened for all oneworld elites as well.

I think the Jackie discussion is that much of this has been vague future changes without much evidence of change to most of us.

Many people posting here already speed through the airport so this won't be much of a dramatic change for us. Personally travelling domestically it takes me about 3 mins get from the car to the lounge - not sure I need anything faster other than shorter queues at security:

I'm actually suprised there is not much discussion on this topic?

Probably because this was announced ages ago, everyone rejoiced then and talked about it then :)
