FWIW...

• the end product of the OLCI process is a barcode, which when scanned doesn't initiate a boarding slip to be printed at the gate.
• the end product of the web phone & RFID check-in processes are barcodes, which when scanned DO initiate a boarding slip to be printed at the gate.

Thus, as you board, the FA is probably expecting to sight a printed boarding pass/slip?

I've got a Blackberry Bold, and I have used it several times for olci using the link down on the webpage. It has worked fine every time.

Basically as another poster has said, just sends you a text message that is a link to an image = your boarding pass.

They just scan this at the QP and in you go.

Shame they have to print out a receipt. Nice non-use of paper until that point...

I love technology but everything I have ever done on my BB has ended in disaster, except for receiving emails and downloading attachments. I became so sick of apps not working or timing out that I just stopped trying to use them. I think I probably can get a boarding pass on it....maybe I'll work up the courage tonight.

If you are pressed for time, OLCI in the taxi, and you run straight to the gate (I'm assuming no check-in luggage). Of course, the fact that I have spend several hours reading AFF today probably indicates that I am only pressed for time in theory.

Sure, but you could also do it on your phone, I wonder how many people leave check in to the last minute despite the fact you have 24 hours, its not like once you check in your locked in.

I can change seats after check in, even change flights should I be on a flexible fare, or even cancel the flight, I have done all three in the past, so there is no need to think you are locked in at all. In other words, why leave it to the last minute?

No ... unlike other modes of checking in, it appears that currently, once "mobile check in" check-in is used for a flight, the only way to get a paper BP is at a check in desk or the QP.

I was referring to online check in 24 hours before (and should have mentioned that) and the flexibility it give, as I said I see no reason to leave it to the last minute. The fact you can modify the details at the kiosk or by again going online up to an hour before the flight means I never have had to use the mobile check in, to be frank I think it is a bit of a gimmick, but at the same time it does have its users so some see it as more value than I do.

Well, as usual I was running late and just got to the gate at the very end of the queue, no time to pull out the ipad, question remains unanswered. Anyway trips to SYD, nz and asia later will give me plenty of opportunity to try.

Perhaps I'm overlooking something but last time I checked blackberrys had a browser. I'm assuming the qf site is not optimised for it so you can't do mobile check in?

QF site detects Blackberries and auto-sends to the Mobile site.
MOCI works very well on the Bold 9700
(although last time it printed a blank boarding ticket! as printer out of ink)

The browser on the Bold 9700 is a lot better than previous Blackberries although still so-so. Blackberry will shortly roll out OS6 (including backwards to some models inc the Bold 9700) and it has the new Webkit browser which looks very nice.

I also check on online most of the time, but I try to travel superlight on 1-2 day trips, so avoid carrying a laptop. Checking in using your phone is thus only way you can do it before arriving at airport...

We have just developed a pdf itinerary with embedded links for use on the iPad. The front page(s) has all the usual info; flight and accommodation details with PNR and confirmation numbers etc. It also contains hyperlinks to the original document from QF or the Hotel with all the details, including email messages, if relevant. Google map images are also embedded. Very handy when out of town.

Very easy to do, too with Adobe 9. Might be old news to some but still fun for us!

I tried using it in the US... LAX to LAS and NYC to LAX.
Needless to day , just too big for the reader in some cases. Plus I ended up having a long conversation with the customs folk who hadn't seen one (in fact many people in America hadn't seen one before)

To be slightly more precise:

I have a word template for itineraries, flights, accom, addresses for meetings, hire cars etc. The pdf from QF - for example - that has the "official" travel details in a pdf or email message is added to the completed template word document and then converted into a pdf. The pdf then has links embedded in it to take you to the official confirmation document if needed. I store the pdf in iAnnotate.

The original word doc itinerary serves as a summary with all the supporting material behind if required. We use the same process for meeting papers with lots of attachments. Was very useful recently when checking into a Hotel that said something "wasn't so", I was able to produce a copy of the email saying "it was so" on my iPad!

It is not hard, if I can do it! I hope this makes sense! PM me if you want more info.
