When flying , the iPhone has become a handy item to have when some time needs to be wasted.
I came accross this site where many applications have been reviewed.

iPhone App Reviews, iPhone Game Reviews, and iPhone News :: 148Apps

One of my favorite applications is "My Eyes Only". I store all my sensitive bank account data, credit card data, Passport info,Medicare, etc etc.

It is a secure app and if the phone is lost cannot be opened.

There are other apps like this I have since found out and are cheaper.

Do you have a favorite app ? Favorite game app? Share it here.

Good site - just had a quick look and cant wait for the time to spare having a good browse!

My fav apps:

Games:
1. Doodle Jump
2. Zyunga Poker
3. Sudoku
4. Flightpath

Social networking
1. Facebook

Other apps:
1. Maps (I hardly carry a GPS in my luggage anymore)
2. Foxtel guide - for setting those travel program reminders!
3. Accorhotels
4. Xpense Trkr
5. Best Western

Obviously my email gets a work out as well, I have MS exchange pushing and I also run a POP3 account on my phone

iPhone - 12 months ago, wouldn't have bought one, now wouldn't live without it!

Mr!

I have found some excellent iPhone Apps for Travel, some not so good.

My top Travel Apps are:

* Flight Update Pro
* TripIt (with TripIt Pro Subscription)
* LiveATC (Great for killing time in airport lounges)
* AroundMe (POI's near me - needs data/wifi connection)
* Various Citiy specific applications of drinking/eating/entertainment establishments

Other non-travel related ones that are used with much regularity:

* Mail (of course)
* Apple Remote for iTunes
* Shazam (Music recognition)
* Pkt Weather
* Evernote (virtual clipboard allowing you to dump notes/pdf's etc to a central place and sync to your phone - great for itinerary copies and the like)
* Quota (Mobile Usage/FF Points/Bank Accounts/Citylink - More like a balance checker for heaps of things rather than just it's original purpose of mobile usage)
* 1Password Pro - (secure storage of passwords/bank account details/credit cards etc)

- Games
* Solebon Solitaire (for those boring flights)
* Bejeweled 2
* Peggle
* Uno
* Scrabble
* Trivial Pursuit
* Boxed In
* Flight Control

I have a heap more on my phone, but they're the ones that get used the most. There are a lot of mediocre apps for travel unfortunately. I did buy one that professed to be a bible of airport amenities, and where they were located (pre/post security screening) but it turned out to be user-submitted US only. Great potential but that's about it :(

Just looking at my current most used Apps:

Facebook
My Flights (excellent for QF flights)
Transit Syd (train times in Sydney)
MailPro - great for hotmail
Skype
Quota
Jungle Crash
Civ Revolutions
eBay
iTimeZOne
Exchange LE

I see My Flights is no longer for sale - the note on the site is that it has been removed because Amadeus were going to build something similar in the near future. Anyone know if this has happened yet?

Looks like a great app and shame I missed it!

I’m sure there was another thread a while ago that everyone shared their app finds in.

I’ll list a few that others haven’t mentioned, and a few they have…

  1. Domino's (for ordering pizzas)
  2. Flight Control (game)
  3. Grindr (gay cruising app - though I’ve made friends on it, honest)
  4. Ping! (a sort of free text-messaging service)
  5. Shazam (to discover new music, and not too hard to use while driving)
  6. Sol Free (my solitaire addiction)
  7. Twitteriffic (so I can tweet on the move)

My fave apps, but I didn't use many when I last travelled (first OS trip with iPhone) as I was freaked about data usage - and ended up with a $10 data charge from usage when I should have been connected to the QP wireless in LAX.
  • Facebook
  • Evernote
  • Qantas (not that there's much you can do with it, but at least can now see trip without needing the Amadeus reference)
  • TripIt
  • TwitBird Pro - for twitter
  • LineUp - tetris-like game
What I hope to use for & on our next trip:
  • Packing Pro
  • TripIt
  • BeanHunter
  • Kindle
  • Wi Fi Finder
  • Disney DiningGuide (tho most reviews seem very old)
  • Qantas2
  • Christmas shopping list/ similar shopping & present tracking app
  • Currency app
What my three-year-old will want to play on my iPhone:
  • Bubble Snap
  • FishFrenzy
  • Cows Space
  • Snowman

On an unrelated note, it seems the Qantas app has been removed from the store. I wonder when this happened… and why?!

I've noticed that if I surf to qantas.com.au in Safari on my iPhone, it basically goes to a site that's a replica of the functionality the Qantas app provides.
Why have an app when the mobile version of the site will do the same thing?
Apart from not needing people to enter the URL ...

I believe the iPhone mobile version of the site was like that before the app. But what I don’t understand is why they couldn’t release an app that has good functionality.

It might be linked into the new mobile check in functionality that is coming.

I have just got the check my trip app that I assume is the amadeus app that they are talking about. Basically the same as my flights except free :mad:

Probably because it was just a WebApp. It's identical to loading Safari and going to Qantas - flights to Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Asia. Book airfares at qantas.com. :)

The App in the store was useless. They need to either re-do the app, or re-do the web interface to be useful (look at AA, a wealth of info on their webapp if you have a AA number).

You don't even need an AA number -- I ticketed one of my YUP's entirely using the web app -- and that was well over a year ago now!

That's exactly right. I know a guy whose company tendered to write a true iPhone app for Qantas but they lost out to a cheaper bid and the result is that very ordinary web app trying to look as though it is a real iPhone app...

I just tried it out, it’s very easy to use and very good. Going to be something I use when travelling from now on :D

Out of curiosity, what kind of funcitonality? I've found the app pretty pointless so far, until I could actually see my trips without knowing my Amadeus number. I'm a bit stumped as to what more I'd like to be able to do, but perhaps I'm just lacking in app-imagination.

The gay world is way ahead in.. Ahem.. 'friend making'

I did like the ease at which I could see how many flights were running late out of an airport.. whilst waiting in the QP. Again It was a case of plane spotting out the window and playing doodle jump!

If you could log into your account and do all the things you can do from a standard web browser, but optimised to a smaller screen on the iPhone, that sort of functionality would be useful.

What I would like from an iPhone app is:

ff balances and activity
bookings
apply for upgrades
olci including scanner readable boarding pass

I think all the stuff about schedules etc is a bit of a waste. I just need to deal with my stuff ...
