FWIW Second Dial worked PERFECTLY in SIN for the 2 hrs I was there - PERFECT.

Again mirroring cove's thread thanking AFF for what it is - thank you again to drewbles and malmac.

2 guys I have never and maybe will never meet - yet they took time from their activities to assist - that is what makes AFF a fabulous resource - again thanks to all.

Thoroughly road tested and it works a treat.

To recap - I have a SingTel SIM which gives me VERY cheap international calls if I dial international exit code of 019 instead of normal 001 - screen shot of iPhone below:



Easiest way to replace exit code is to make sure all your contacts have + then country code then numberr. My contact in China Unicom is trying to locate a similar code for China which wiull reduce call rates from China to Oz from RMB8/min to less than RMB1/min - gotta love that.

Will report back when I have the code.

UPDATE - If you have non-Chinese sourced smart phone - only compatible 3G in China is through China Unicom - China Mobile or China Telecom 3G is not compatible.

I have China Unicom SIM where call costs back to Oz about RMB8/min - but if you use the Second Dial app and substitute exit code from China by replacing + with 10193+ then call cost reduced to RMB2/min.

With IPhone apps I've stuck with Skype which previous to the Iphone mainly used from a netbook and/or desktop. It worked very well on a recent trip to Rio using just WIFI.

Update - seems my mostest favourite iPhone App Second Dial is no longer available from iTunes - Second Dial for iPhone

I still have the App on my phone and it still works perfectly but is no longer available from USA or OZ iTune stores.

AFAIK yes, but don't quote me (have had it a year or two now but rarely use it).

We are increasingly moving to facetime over Skype now - my mum has an iPhone 4 now and with wifi at home it is just much easier.

I hate paying for Apps - but I got 24 neices and nephews - I am forever trying the free Apps they come across - best part of iPhone Apps is the FREE part - download - try - like - keep - dislike - discard.

Now if only girlfriends / boyfriends (depending on your gender) were like that life would be perfect huh?

I still think Hey Tell is just the best thing since sliced bread - ease of use fabulous.

Thanks for the great reviews re HeyTell. I downloaded it and love it (free). Often the best apps are found by word of mouth. I've been using Viber for a few years. Reception and reliability has got better. Does anyone pay for international calls anymore?

OT but who is using cigarette lighter mounted in-car cradle for iPhone – not one that sits oin dash or window and is justpowered by CL – one that has stalk that actually fits into CL? Brand? Where do I get one? I did buy one off eBay which is perfect except it squeals the whole time.

There is star wars and space - and in Star Wars there are some levels based on the physics of the space version. I actually don't like the space game.

I did last week - had to dial into a two hour board meeting in Saudi - no way to call in using skype (skype not corporate software) so $189 later...

Sometimes you come across an App that just makes so much sense it's a no-brainer:
