Sorry, slightly tangential topic (mods feel free to move if needed).

Can anyone advise - mrsdoc's iphone 3S has died and is asking to connect to itunes. A master reset hasnt helped. When I connect it, it wants to reset it and warns it will lose any downloaded files etc.

mrsdoc has a large number of photos on it - will these be lost?

Last backup was a few months ago so not all will be lost but mrsdoc reluctant to let me proceed and risk losing pics......

Can you described how it "died" and what you did to "master reset" it?
Had she by any chance said Yes to allowing it to do a software upgrade (e.g. to iOS6)? Did it perhaps run out of power whilst doing this?
Did you do a hard reset by holding the lock (top) and home (front) buttons in until the Apple logo appears?

Lesson learned: enable iCloud backup then this would be a no-stress event.

DeKa, I have 4S that is still running iOS5 (I have never updated the software). It has iCloud backup that comes with it free (I don't actually recall setting it up!). I want to upgrade to iOS6 - how do I find out what is actually backed up in iCloud? Can I back up over the air rather than through iTumes? Is there any downside to this method?

Sorry to hijack this thread.

Plug it in to a PC, access the phone via "My Computer". You should be able to copy all the photos off onto your computer. I did that with my 3GS when it reached the end of its life.

Try logging into iCloud.com You should be able to see what you have in your "cloud" there.

She just went to use it and it had plug in to iTunes logo on the front.

See below - hard reset (sorry - me using the wrong terminology)

Definitely not (she doesn't even sync it unless I demand it!)

Yes - no improvement

Lesson learned: enable iCloud backup then this would be a no-stress event.

Ill try that - thanks!

I think I am OC. I've lost my phone a few times and I have all my photos, movies, songs etc backed onto a separate hard drive. All catalogued. I have 2000 photos on my phone and can find anyone I want within a few seconds.
