Ireland late June

Hmm, not sure which is closest to you, I suppose that's a better question for our Londonite residents.

Will you have luggage or HLO only? Personally for a flight like that I would avoid LHR as Gatwick will be a quicker and more seamless process simply because it's smaller.

All DUB flights leaving LHR do so from T1 which is an utterly horrible tin shed! That being said, for me LHR-DUB is so like a bus or train journey I have done it so many times I no longer care about the terminal!

On the FR thing, I don't understand why people hate them. A couple of hundred people who paid mere cents for their flights complain, but nothing is said about the other 80,000,000 people who fly them annually without hitch.

If you are an experienced and researched flyer then FR is the way to go!

Thanks a million - yes will have loads of luggage - we are away for 3 weeks - Cruiserette does not travel light!

Food for thought, if you have lots of luggage then factor that in to your comparison, a 1 cent fare (plus 40 euro taxes) can be expensive with 'excess' bags.

If you have OW status for luggage allowance EI will interline to/from a connecting international OW flight at no charge but if you book across the ditch (Irl/UK) as a separate PNR then there is no OW benefit. BA will give OW allowances.

Following thread with interest....planning to visit Dublin and surrounds in late April 2015 :)

I have booked +1s award flights to / from Dub (Qf /Ba outbound, Ey inbiund) for late April / early May 2015...we will have a week after my conference to drive around Ireland. ..so Cruiser Elite, I will be very interested to hear of your trip and itinerary:)

Cruiser Elite, I will be interested in what you see in Dublin and any good restaurants / pubs you eat at as we will also be in Dublin for a week:)

OK we have arrived Dublin - we are staying at the Morrison - Hotels Dublin | Wedding Hotels Dublin | Conference Venues Dublin | Morrison Hotel - only spent one night here so far - booked Studio Room - it is HUGE - quality is EXCELLENT - location is PERFECT - rate €279/nt - IMHO anybody contemplating accom in DUB make sure you include Morrison in your comparisons.

200mtr walk to Temple Bar - had dinner, drinks and enjoyed music at The Old Storehouse - Bar & Restaurant Dublin - WOW - and the TripAdvisor rating:

So I emailed them and here is their response:

Hi Cruiser ,

Thank you for getting back to me, unfortunately we would have nothing to offer around that time as we are booked out till late August.
If we can be of further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind Regards,
Tom.

That would be a handy business would it not?

Ran out of money yesterday so last night was off to The Bank to replenish supply - Home - The Bank On College Green - and again the TripAdvisor rating:

FANTASTIC - service great - menu narrow but food excellent - wine list OK - again an experience not to be missed - live music - just a great atmosphere - best so far.

Really enjoying this, living vicariously through this thread. ... And making notes for my upcoming trip :)

We just love Dublin - lovely easy city to enjoy and get around - and the Irish people are just sensational - fabulous sense of humour. Guy at immig asked me how long I was staying - I replied 1 week but I promise to behave - his response - 'Oh we don't tolerate good behaviour here - you better work on another plan'. Sitting in a quaint Irish pub and noticed the tiny little low stools at tables - thought I would be a smart cough and ask barmaid when the wee people are due to arrive - her immediate response without a blink 'Oh they come and go all day - they usually bite the tourists for a drink - I am surprised you hadn't met one by now'!

Asked about the hop-on/hop-off city tour - concierge said it's fine but his suggestion was the small hop-on/hop-off Road Train - he said this is Ireland - you are supposed to be a wee bit silly here - so we did it - it was fabulous - it has 3 stops - Dame St (right near Temple Bar}, Guinness Factory - perfect and O'Connell St the main shopping drag. We got on Dame St - got off to do the Guinness tour - back on for rest of trip to Dame St to get off.

Concierge also said indeed you can see more both sides of street on this that the big open top double decker buses.

As mentioned below the Guinness tour a MUST. Also as mentioned pre-purchase tix online:

You don't need to print out tix at all you just need your ref code and input that upon entry:

Admission price also includes 1 pint Guinness - Guinness pints are big mothers aren't they?

You can pour your own pint if you want on Level 4 if you want - there was about a 15min wait in line to do so then you need to carry it up to Gravity Bar on Level 7 to get the views - we did not wait - staff upstairs in Gravity Bar pour it for you - much better idea IMHO.

Very moorish drop too I must say.

Cruiserette found some new friends in the way of a group of girls on a 'hens tour' from London - the girls said Guinness starts to taste OK after 10 or 11 pints - I think there would have been some tired and emotional ladies before the day was out!
