China's terrifying and dazzling molten metal festival

When I was a young child my father was in a workplace accident that involved vats of molten galvanized steel and many months/a year+ of recovery. Obviously your version of amazing experience differs greatly to mine.

Im OK with most Nanny State rules, if it keeps people safe.

When I was a school we were still allowed to do this:

We also did this - chemistry and geology!

Good news. After checking out the policies here, I could not find anything that stops me flinging molten metals around.

As a country kid and budding black art chemist.. all sorts of interesting stuff was available walk up in wholesale chemists as well as the school science lab
I have forgotten everything I got up to .... which is probably a good thing , but enjoying the vids .. keep 'em comin….
We did blow a 30m high tree into a million bits one day with home made explosives..
It started off like a space rocket but suffered extensive structural failure at about 15 feet

I was in Beijing about 8yrs ago for CNY and it was crazy..

Firework sellers in big tents on every 2nd corner.

And people letting them off only 50m away.

Saw one multiple shooter box flip sideways after its first shot, then began firing rockets along the ground while spinning with everyone ducking for cover and hoping one didn't hit the fireworks stand.

As a Chinese person that regularly visits for LNY, it's sad to see that you won't be allowed to set off fireworks in major urban centres any more.

I mean fair enough. We're talking full-scale fireworks. Bought and set off by regular citizens. In majorly-populated areas.

Thanks @RooFlyer they certainly know what they are doing. Molten metal has always fascinated me so main reason to become a Met. Haven't the spectacular sparks like in China.

One of my favourites, the casting of molten pseudo lead sulphide which we made in a furnace. Temperature is over 1100C.




And my little baby furnace i play with doing experiments.
