Is Business Class worth it??

jmillard - given your upcoming trip, do you have any tips for booking a RTW in J, with regard to how far in advance to book and ease of available seats? We are looking at same in a year or so using Qantas points. Thanks - Deb

I have done this a few times and try to book as soon as possible after the window opens - 350 days in advance (?)

Also, if you have any odd ball locations (this trip - Peru) I do not bother trying to do it on line - I would rather pay the fee and have someone at Qantas do it - it takes about 1/2 hour and is worth the money. You need to do your howework on where you wish to be and when, and be a little flexible if possible.

Long haul like we go in J usually with QFF points just for the extra seat comfort, as a WP get all the other on ground benefits anyway. If we can't get the seats, sometimes will go from OZ PE to say HKG and get J seats out of there, its cheaper and good point value too.
 
Usually upgrading flights from the east coast to Perth is a waste of money/points IMO.
The one exception is if the return flight is on the same day. Then I will fly Y in the morning and use points to upgrade the return flight, making the journey less tiring and enjoying a good meal and a few glasses of wine in J.
 
not really, VA seashells only show 2-2-2 until check in poems, then if it's to be XFA/XFB only them do the seat maps change to 2-3-2.

Funniest typo I've seen today - I wouldn't normally comment on a simple mistake but this one has me imagining poetry about checking in:

Waiting in the premium queue
for nearly ten minutes at half past two
To be told my bag is oversized
(as if I hadn't realised!)
and I need to go to the other end
where my oversized luggage they will send.
as if that wasn't bad enough
the business lounge is closed - life's sometimes rough!


Sorry, back on topic. VA on a A330, totally worth the upgrade. Lie flat seats, amenities kits, lovely food, great service, big screens.

?364 days in advance. but totally agree. the small cost of the fee is so worth the time and effort

For that length of flight and cost? Not worth it.

I don't care what sort of equipment VA use. Even if they offer in flight massage and it still isn't worth it.
 
Thanks all. Happy for Qantas to organise booking. The challenge will be planning a year ahead!! Anyone know the penalties if you have to cancel?

7-9 hours in Y might not be that easy to bear. If you are taking the last flight of the evening you probably won't have the best night of sleep. But you would arrive at the destination probably around late afternoon/early evening and may be ok to recover the following night

I leave Sydney in the morning and get to Pattaya ~2:00am via BNE-SIN-KUL-BKK and I am up at 9:00am next morning ready for golf. Works for me.

True, but you play like cough for the first 14 holes, then finish birdie, birdie, double bogey, birdie....and then rip it up on the 19th hole.

Arriving home from Europe close to midnight then straight to bed was the best way to beat jet lag I have found.

I am flying Sydney / Perth / Sydney - is it worth paying the extra for Business Class so I am more comfortable on the longer flights??

We are going to the opposite way to Auckalnd next weekend and decided to pay for business class one way. Cant wait as we are flying emeritas A380. Cant wait to see personal cubicle, sky bed, business lounge etc. It is about the experience not just the money.

LOL. Some of my better games are first up. It's when you think you know everything that things go downhill.
 
Wish I could afford J travel but unfortunately outside of upgrades and opups.

However I loved taking a J RTW Award flights totally worth it many different OW flights long haul for only 280k QF pts.
 
I upgraded with points only 10,000 Perth to Sydney this week on A330 and yes worth it. Nice seat , good food plenty of room and great service

Those flights are a no brainier to upgrade I do exactly the same as you.

(Even if the "big bowl of soup" isn't even close to being either big or soup. ;) )
 
Not necessarily a "no brainer". It's an individual choice. For such a short flight, I prefer to save my points, and use them to upgrade on long haul, or purchase premium economy or business. However, if it's a night flight and sleep is anticipated, then I can relate to it.
