Im trying to book LAX-MEL on Sep 3rd,Business reward clearly is available and I go through all the steps and click on purchase seat and it says the seat is no longer available.Been like that for days so I call up the call centre and they say there isnt even 1 seat available. This is also the same for Sep 10.

Phantom availability is becoming a real problem. It shows available but won't confirm. Been through it myself recently

Reading this thread gave me hope on one popping up 30-40 days out. Got a J Upgrade for BNE-LAX 13th Jan. Adding another 1A boarding pass to my collection :). Was unavailable from my trip booking in October till yesterday 5th Dec, 38 days out.

I noticed today a few J and PE upgrades were added for Jan/Feb BNE-LAX and LAX-BNE

Help with Virgin Air velocity redemption's - massive points needed?!

Hi All
Just sussing out some redemption for next year and for some reason I am getting some MASSIVE point's needed for flights that just don't match the table given by velocity.

Eg: Sydney to Hawaii is about 5000 miles so according to this it should be zone 7 or even 6 .
https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Redeem/Airlines/PointsTables/
So for business it should be 83,500 points + tax's using zone 7

But when I do a search for flights on virgin air departing July 31st 2017 , it's coming as 300,000-400,000+ points for a "any seat business" . Everything else is sold out. Does this mean all the proper priced points seats are sold out? or not released?
Or am I doing something wrong.

cheers!

Re: Help with Virgin Air velocity redemption's - massive points needed?!

When you only see 'any seat award' this is just a (poor) conversion of the cash fare
It usually means no award seats
However, given Hawaiian airlines dont appear on the online booking list there may be incomplete availability showing
I must say I'd be surprised if you could find any premium availability to HNL in their summer 7 months out

Thanks for the reply
I have ever only booked 2 domestic flights using pointsso new to doing international
So did I leave it too late? Should I of booked earlier? How do I book onto Hawaiian airlines? Could I call and do it over the phone?
cheers

Re: Help with Virgin Air velocity redemption's - massive points needed?!

I suspect too late. Flights to Hawaii v highly sought after and prob need to pick up as they are released.
However I can't even see availability in Economy in Nov 17.
Others may be able to advise if ringing brings more joy

You need to call Velocity to book Reward seats on Hawaiian Airlines. There is generally plenty of availability in Economy but very little in Business.

I've found that they sometimes release J seats a few months out, but generally none a year in advance.

Re: Help with Virgin Air velocity redemption's - massive points needed?!

Thanks for the replies . I just find it hard that every reward business seat everyday is sold out for the next 7 months. Like every single day! I guess I better believe it. How much in advance do seats get released again?
cheers!

Re: Help with Virgin Air velocity redemption's - massive points needed?!

You got me thinking and I signed up to the HA programme-they do have some business availability in July. Not sure if this corresponds to VA availability but would suggest searching on HA then calling VA

Re: Help with Virgin Air velocity redemption's - massive points needed?!

I think there must be a glitch or something on the website
I still can't believe that everyday for 7 months it is booked out.

I m probably not explaining well but I think the issue is that you don't see true availability on the VFF website

Re: Help with Virgin Air velocity redemption's - massive points needed?!

Ahh ok I think I am starting to understand
I don't want to transfer my AMEX points to VFF then find out nothing is available
I'll call them directly and suss it out
cheers

Re: Help with Virgin Air velocity redemption's - massive points needed?!

I know that VA book econony award flights on HA in 'T' class but not sure about business.

I've always found the booking process quite easy with the VA call centre.

Re: Help with Virgin Air velocity redemption's - massive points needed?!

Reward seats can magically appear at T-48

Keep looking!

Re: Help with Virgin Air velocity redemption's - massive points needed?!

Been looking for the last 2 weeks
nothing
Rang the VA redemptions and their screens are showing nothing as well :/
How many days in advance do seats get released again?
cheers
