Is it me or is this not fair re change of fights?

Otherwise, I suppose that's the risk of booking two separate tickets, and what travel insurance is for...

Where does this myth about travel insurance come from? I see it repeated time and time again. I suspect, without going into the full T&C that travel insurance is not going to cover this situation. Many have exclusions relating to schedule changes by airlines.

I think the OP will have to either keep on trying with QF right up to travel time, or suck it up and buy and earlier flight.

What is the time change for the QF flight? As this is a flight originating in the EU you might be eligible under the EU compensation laws. It does refer to delays, from memory, but I wonder if it includes all changes to departure time.

Also look here in the conditions of carriage Qantas That clearly says for schedule changes they will rebook you onto the next available flight at no cost to you.

The conditions say "significant change". QF has changed QF2 from 22.35 to a 22.10 departure I believe. Not significant. But I don't get it...the OP wants to change from QF2 to QF10 but QF10 goes even earlier at 21.30 so how would that help him? Am I missing something?

Starting 25th March QF2 departs at 21:30 while QF10 departs at 22:30.

Okay thanks. Then he may have a some grounds to be annoyed but QF would still probably argue that 1 hour is not significant given the fair warning so seriously ... pay the $100 and get on with it.

Now I understand the OP a little more I have some sympathy.

I wonder how many of those 4K of SCs were QF BIS as I assume a P1 wouldn't have this problem...

Hi MJW

Slightly off OT - I was nearly caught out 2 years ago on a FASA BKK-SYD I had a connecting paid flight from PKT-BKK which was delayed over two hours, when the craft landed Level 2 had to get to Level 4 quickly made it by 10min. but then had to arrange for baggage to follow me - 4 days later. So lesson learnt I now (on separate tkts) arrange at least 8 hour or overnight connection - can always find something to do.

Also do D or AONE each year and without fail they have changed at least two flights before I start, but at least if there are delayed flights they usually arrange next available.

As Princess Fiona suggested calling QF again in the hope you get a nicer person - but if you were upset with them on your first call they may have put a little black dot next to your name.

There was another suggestion about going to flight details and see if you can change flights.

But if all else fails pay the difference with BA and caulk it up to experience. :):)

By the way how much time did you allow between flights.

I suspect it is BA781 ARN-LHR 18:25-20:10. A little tight for a 21:30 LHR departure. MCT at LHR is 90 minutes?

I'm quite with the OP on this issue. If a carrier introduces a schedule change after ticketing, they should waive any fare class restrictions if the pax would like to re-book the travel with them for another time in the same cabin class of travel. (maybe with a limit of +/- 1 day)

Qantas has done this for me in the past.

Yea, this would make me not fly Qantas if they pulled this on me.

Keep ringing back Qantas and try to get a better person.

A question for you though - what would you do if the BA flight was delayed an hour? You'd miss the QF flight and probably lose the fare if it was a Saver FASA (or at least wear a steep penalty).

I guess the point is if booking on two separate PNRs you really need to make sure there is a large connection time between. Need to allow for delays, time changes etc. Qantas isn't liable if you didn't put the flights on the same booking. Nor is travel insurance. Still, I don't see why Qantas can't accommodate here just to be nice for once. It's not going to cost them anything.

Personally, if I'm booking on different PNRs and different airlines I always put an overnight stay in between the flights just for safety. That way travel insurance covers me as it's then considered a stop-over and if the other airline is delayed more than 24 hours I'm ok.

Wise words there pshepvic ! As others have also said - this strategy can often cover off Murphy's Law (That any high costs pre-booked JASA or FASA combined with an inflexible paid fare not on the same PNR will instentaneously trigger a schedule change by one operator to below MCT or will result in a 100% chance of a freak meterological event never seen before to prevent aforementioned connection being made).

If I was the OP and didn't get any satisfaction from QF I would also be making a lot of noise about this, hopefully QF do the right thing by him and he has a great trip.
