Hi All,

I don't travel with QF for work but when I travel I enjoy using the QFClub. I religiously fork out every two years to renew my corporate membership. Do you think its worth forking out $4200.00 for a life time membership?

Look forward to your responses.

Regards

PL

Do a search, and you might find a relevant forum where this has been discussed in great detail!!

It took me a minute to find 2 relevant forums.. there are plenty more, i remember reading them

Yes it's worth it, and no, it's not worth it!

Depends on several factors.

If you can attain Gold, or Plat, then you don't need to pay for Qantas Club.

How long is a lifetime? The lifetime of the Qantas Club Scheme, not your lifetime...

Also, you could be like me. I paid for Life membership, but used it only for about a year before attaining gold&plat. If I keep my flying schedule up, I will be lifetime gold in a few years. At that stage, my ïnvestment" is worth nothing.

The Lifetime benefits have been watered down. It used to be 1 guest + pass for 2nd guest, now it is just one guest. How long till it is watered down again?

So maybe it is right for you, maybe it isn't ... something you need to decide.

BTW. The food and conditions in the Qantas Clubs have not been improving... Will they continue to slide to "'AAmerican" standards? Want to pay for drinks? Enjoy Pretzels as part of your standard diet?

Which do you expect to last longer:
  • Your lifetime
  • The Qantas Club's lifetime
  • Your desire to travel
  • Your ability to fund your personal travel
Its a very large investment if you are not going to use it regularly. Personally I would not have invested in a lifetime membership, but I know some people who have and they are very happy they did make the investment.

So only you can anser your question based on your own personal situation.

plegrand, I agree with the two excellent responses from NM and Mal. I bought my Lifetime QC when I was an "old program" Silver (equiv to Gold now), thinking that I'd rather have it assuming my flying might not in the future be increasing beyond the level I was travelling at that stage. I was also in my early 30's and thought it would be able to be used for a couple more years yet :) .

Barely 9 months later, a major contract win made me increase my domestic travel (as well as requiring me to buy more Flexi Saver sectors, rather than the previous Super Saver & red e-deals that I had been buying). That, plus the change of program rules, made me Gold (then with the additional flying & higher SC's making me Plat). Therefore, "free" QC membership. Been that way for 5 years now, never had to pull out the card (but I am still writing it off through my tax, over 10 years @ $300 year).

However, like everybody, the ebb & flow of work travel means that I'll probably fall from Plat, to Gold next year and perhaps Silver the year after (that's where the Lifetime Silver that I'll attain next month will come in handy, can't fall below that for the life of the program or mine, whichever finishes first).

Now look at your own situation. Are you likely to achieve Gold or Plat level flying for the foreseeable future, therefore making achievement of Lifetime Silver and then Life Gold a probability in the next 5 to 10 years?? If so, then QC membership will always be free and Lifetime QC will have merely been a tax deduction.

As NM said, overarching all this will be the rules of QC membership adn the QFF program. How long before QF water down the benefits (if that is the case, then maybe QC Life may be more useful). But unless you have a crystal ball

Similar story as Lindsay Wilson...

Bought QC Life in 1996 (I was in my mid 20's). While happy to have it, at that time I did not expect to be doing the flying on QF to progress up their tier levels but thought if I was going to be in Oz for the next 20 years, then it would be a good deal. Tens years on, it is not the same club with the same benefits, but at the time, it was the best decision based on the facts and my travel.

I have not used a QC card in almost 6 years as like Lindsay, my patterns changed. Without said crystal ball, you have to make a call as to what you expect your travel patterns to be and whether that is worth the $$ for life memebership. Personally, I would think long and hard about it if I was in my 20's again and QF was undergoing the changes it is now. I have a gut feeling that once Jet* takes over more and more of the domestic market from the mainline, we might be in for more "enhancements" - both in QC and the QFFP.

I dont think it is worth it if you have access to a Corporate membership, which makes the return on investment around 9 years before you are ahead and as others have said at lot can change in 10 years.

I am sure those that paid for GW life membership would agree about things changing, and in reality the demise of ansett and subsequentially the GW meant competition to QC was gone. Since then the lounges have generally gone downhill in terms of being a quiet place to relax and also the food on offer.

I have life membership in both GW (my life, not AN  ) and QC. I think that life membership ($1350) in GW was worthwhile for the 13 years I was in it before AN went bust. The QC has gone downhill without competition and for the last 4 years I have been WP so there was no need for me to buy membership. I agree with markis10 about the quality of the QC lounges.
