Hi Guys

Flying to Singapore end of April. Was looking at 3 options for MEL-Singapore-MEL
JQ star class $1500
QF economy $1300
QF premium economy $2500

I have never used premium economy on QF but from what I read the star class seat is better? Also you earn business status credits on star class.

So with all of these "benefits" of JQ why is qantas so much more? Is jet star overall that bad?

I find QF a fairly expensive airline... unless the Department is paying i prefer to spend the money on other things... but when i had QP membership i used to like to fly jetstar out of any of the LCCs to be able to use the facilities...

specially internationally to Bali or other destinations i would get quotes from Tiger, Air Asia, VB and the rest then ring Jetstar and get them to match the price if they weren't already the cheapest... my Y flying ways are probably differnt to people that haven't experienced whY in many years though... :)

Or you could fly Emirates (EK) for A$700...much better IFE, better meals, comparable service ;)

I would never fly JQ long haul, Star Class or not. I use 3K (JetStar Asia) only because I have to do within the region. They are acceptable (just) but the price point is unbeatable in most cases (ie S$200 for SIN-MNL-SIN)

For what QF are charging for PE (ie A$2500) I can fly SIN-MEL-SIN in Business on EK. Ok, I'll stop beating the EK drum now...

We really need a forum for asking routing questions related to OneWorld earning only… oh wait, we’re in the Qantas Program forum!

I think it’s plain to see the OP is looking to earn SC’s.

As for JQ, I’d heard the service you are looking at has been cancelled in the past, but I’m not sure what JQ would do for StarClass pax in such a scenario. I know what they’d do to the vast majority of economy pax, and that’s just to leave them on their own, so the first thing to do is work out what they’ll do for you if the flight is cancelled.

But I guess, so long as you know what you’re getting yourself into, an airline that for the most part sees you as a burden, you’ll be fine ;)

I’ve met some great staff onboard, and some not-so-great staff checking-in.

We did the Syd to Honolulu with Jetstar Star Class and return, was half price of Q, return flight was cancelled so upped to J in Q.

Even though seats were real close in Star Class if front PAX had seat back (as mine did) and food ordinary, still can't see how Q can charge double for seat room and better food. Best seats in Star class are front bulkhead if available.

That is an interesting question. I am trying to find out what would happen to *Class pax if the service to SIN was cancelled on the day. Would they upgrade those clients to a J on a QF service, transfer them to a Y or Y+ seat on QF or would they just say, 'Thanks for coming but these things happen, so deal with it..'

Has anyone had any experience with being on a *class cancelled JQ flight ?

Cheers

Yes as I said our JQ out of Hon was cancelled they upgraded us to Q in J.

Was that on the following day? It is my understanding that JQ and QF fly the route on different days of the week.

Thanks for all that. I guess for the SC and Points and lounge access etc it is worth doing JQ.

However i would like to hear more from those who travelled *class and flight was cancelled. Were you made to wait til the next day for Qantas J? If so any accommodation given?

I would guess, if referring to the MEL-SIN flights, if they waited till the next day, they would put you on the same flight on JQ7 the following day ?

Then the question is, will they pay for the overnight accomodation ?

Can't help with the cancellation question*, but on that set of figures (prices) I'd be going *class. Wait on, I did go *class :) - JQ7 to be precise, and it was a close to ontime departure.

As mentioned you would get lounge access (if you didn't already have it), priority checkin and an express security/immigration card - which can save quite a bit of queueing, depending on queue sizes. And the business points and SCs as well. I think an extra luggage allowance also.

I found the crew to be quite enthusiastic, if not as polished as a standard QF crew.

I will most likely take JQ7 again. JQ8 on the return wasn't as good, but it is an overnight service.

*An AFFer was in *class on JQ7 when it was delayed by 10 or 11 hours. The F lounge staff (he was a WP) were happy to get him onto a later QF flight the same day but the JQ people were having none of it, and made him wait out the duration of the delay.

Recently I was *class MEL/SYD that was cancelled.

JQ booked me on a QF flight, but in deep discount economy and on a flight that departed 7 hours later. When asked to change the flight, the response was you are WP go over to QF and sort it out for yourself!

Finally, all sorted (by QF), except for the whY seat. About 2 months later $400 worth of vouchers from JQ as compensation! No compensation for the missed Flounging!

Class flight 2 weeks ago. No points credited from his first flight (3weeks prior) or the last flight. Put a claim in 10 days ago and still nothing.

Do they sometimes "forget" to
Credit people with SC and FFP?

You can search this forum. There is a topic relating to this recently.

That’s worrying, though you’d be given original routing credit for the SC’s surely? As for the compensation from JQ, I’d not be happy with vouchers… :-|

If your trip is departure/arrival time sensitive, then JQ will most likely disappoint you.

Forget Qantas earning, just fly like the rest of us on either EK or SQ. Grab the upper deck on the SQ A380 and just forget about these silly little Qantas status credits.

The point of FF programs is to maximise your current or future flight experience. With EK and SQ as options, then this is not a route to even contemplate QF or JQ (our national carrier)

If they've put in a claim - and the flight numbers are correct - they will get the points. JQ often does take longer than QF to credit points, but it's really no big deal.

In my opinion Jetstar is ok, it's not bad when it's short haul and for leisure. This is primarily because my mindset is in a relaxed state looking forward to a holiday...

When my flight is for business there's no way i'll fly them... The extra service received from QF is worth it...
