Is MR still going 0.5 points for ATO payments?

I was about to put a BAS payment through on my plat charge card, then remembered the MR points allocation had reduced drastically for tax office payments. Is this still the case? I though some card holders were protesting this change with AmEx.

There are 6 Visa and MasterCards that pay a true point per dollar and then there are the big 4 bank Amex cards that pay 1.5 points per dollar.
Citi Select can pay up to 1.33 points to Krisflyer.

Pack a bit of extra punch with Membership Rewards points[SUP]4[/SUP] every time you spend:
  • 3x points per $1 spent at major supermarkets[SUP]4[/SUP]
  • 2x points at major petrol stations[SUP]4[/SUP]
  • 1x point[SUP]4[/SUP] everywhere else you like to shop (including insurances offered by American Express)
  • 0.5 points[SUP]4[/SUP]on utilities, telecommunications providers, insurance and government bodies in Australia

I would assume this last bit means ATO as well, so it looks like 0.5 points. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Apologies as that was taken from the Platinum Edge blurb. Here is the extract from the Platinum Charge description;
"1 point[SUP]6[/SUP] per $1 spent everywhere else excluding utilities, insurance (except insurances offered by American Express), telecommunications providers and government bodies in Australia where you will earn 0.5 points."

Different phrasing but similar result.

Thanks for that. I guess I will have a look around for an alternative charge card. Cheers.
