Is Qantas about to kick Y-class Platinums out of the First Class lounge?

I have decided to stick with AA EXP rather than QF WP going forward. I notice that in the US the Flagship Lounges allow any OWE other than AA EXP to use their lounges on ANY oneworld flight including domestic AA flights. In other words QF WP have more rights than AA EXP in some cases with lounge access in the US, so it is not a precedent that lounge entry rules may exclude one type of OWE. So an alliance that excludes QF WP from Emirate F lounge in Dubai and allows other OWE entrance to the F lounge is quite possible.

Fortunately for me I will get WP + PG this year but may be looking to AAnother program soon

I will also regain WP+PG this year, after a two year absence. I was looking to moving to AA or CX FFP when gain LTG next year. Most of my business travel is within AU, NZ, Asia & the US, therefore lounge access in DXB is not a huge issue for me.

I will however stay with the QF, if EK match QF's Lounge Policy for children at all their lounges worldwide.

Qantas Lounges welcome you when travelling together with your family. In addition to your normal guest allowance you may also bring up to two children, between ages 4 and 17, into lounges operated by Qantas.

I would argue that on the home front, F lounge access is a significant point of difference between WP on VA and QF!

So any QF "enhancement" at an international level, is likely to have domestic flow on effects. Although I think that the potential for this type of (left hand / right hand) issue, will become more problematic at QF, now that it has spun off its domestic and international businesses into separate companies: Whereas it is less likely to be an issue moving forward at VA, now that they have integrated their two similar businesses (Virgin Blue and V Australia).
The only thing I see possibly happening is Qantas raising the WP/SG/PS qualification bar ...
Weren't some of the re/qualification amounts, for the lowest tiers, reduced in recent times?

Having recently hit WP for the first time, such a change would cause me to re-evaluate my relationship with QFF.

Given their prior statements they should ensure WP has access to the EK F lounges even when flying Y, as otherwise WPs have lost benefits compared to the JSA with BA (since we could use F lounges in LHR, HKG, SIN, and BKK en route to Europe). Even still, being downgraded to EK J lounges would be annoying but at least they should refrain from modifying entitlements at QF-operated lounges.

I think QF will change the ~ requirements to force people onto QF coded/operated flights. It'll also align with VA. (and completely cough up my plans for the year)

EK is 25K, 50K ... 150K "Tier Miles".

So QF on that basis could be 300, 700, 2100SC's.
Wow, so 12 one ways SYD-LAX a year, compared to the current 7 (renewal), before a J class customer gets F lounge access... I would like to see the business case for that!

IMO, if VA wasn't around - it would have been pulled already.

They need to continue to dangle carrots to feed their Dom business........may VA live long & prosper.

I was thinking that QF should give LTS and LTG 300/700 starting SC for their membership year. It allows easier reach per year to get SG/WP. This provides incentives to the LTS/LTG FF to keep flying!

Interesting idea...!!! 600 for LTG makes sense as that is the base that member would be at already.

They are both as bad as one another. From where I sitting I have been losing benefits with both programs in the past 2-3 years and this trend may continue.

I'm feeling very nervous about the next "enhancement " from QFF and not in a good way !

I am also a bit nervous. The forthcoming change which only requires QF to give 3 months notice of changes signals to me that the program is about to degrade in a major way, and perhaps too quickly for some of us to burn points and exit the system...

EK have confirmed access to F lounge for EK plats is regardless of class of travel, not a big surprise, QF would have to go against the One World rules to change it and this follows on from the promise that higher benefits will be adopted by the other airline.

I am finding this thread quite amusing. The OP has read something, proposed a suggestion about what Qantas might do, which is followed by a couple of pages about Qantas being coughs cutting 'benefits' etc. No mind that there is no substance to the posters suggestion.

I think the system will probably work as follows;

- Under a QF code - QF Platinums can gain access to the EK F Lounge
- Under an EK code - Only Business Class lounge access, but EK Platinums will have First Class access

That way there is no erosion to Platinums providing they book under a QF code. Much the same way in that you can only get SCs for booking under a QF code.

As an aside, speaking to an avid QFF the other day, and said he will boycott QF to Europe as stopping in Dubai is inconvenient as trips often involve combining Asia and Europe meetings. He will go over to CX as this is the easiest option in combining Asia and Europe trips into one. Apparently, previously with the BA partnership it was easy to fly SYD-BKK-LHR-PVG-SYD but the fares for doing this now are ridiculous.

Personally I think QF should have maintained some codeshares via Asia like VA has with SQ. But I digress.

If VA wasn't around, then it would be someone else
