IS QF leaving OW?

Cant seem them going ahead with all these lounge upgrades if theyre going lose revenue from OW partners...

The only thing I could see making QF leaving oneworld is CX.

Publicly QF has been clear that their international strategy is international hubs (in conjunction with BA, AA, LA and now EK) and Asia including China.
Now CX (until MH joins and IT if it survives) is Asia in oneworld and has seemingly previously blocked any Chinese airlines joining

I think that's one of the few things keeping them in there.

I'd be surprised if that plays any part in their decision.

QF will make a decision based on if continued membership is currently worth while, and if it's not if discontinuing membership is likely to cause foreseeable problems for them in the foreseeable future.
Whilst they love using the fact they where a OW founding member in some of their advertisements when it suits, do not feel for a second that QF have love for OW, and would stick with them through thick and thin.

Any chance the Gulf Airlines are loosely working together to erode or break up the major alliances?

and considering how nearly every other partnership is ending before the EK one starts,..
.

?????

Nearly every other partnership is ending? Really? What about the partnerships with other (ie not BA, CX) one world airlines (AA, JL, LA) and non-one world airlines (MU, OZ, KQ, SA)?

It would be interesting to see, if QF left OW but kept strong alliances with AA, JL & LA in addition to the new EK relationship and strengthened MU relationship, whether that would make a difference to current SGs, WPs, and P1s. Would it jeopardise their preference for QF domestically? One of the criticisms of VA's approach is absence of strong European partners, and hodgepodge of different rules - which may happen if QF exits.

Qantas/Emirates/LAN/American/SAA. That would be perfect.

Doubt it... Each one is too interested in their own survival to put energy into breaking up alliances. I do believe EK simply looks at alliances as "great for the primary airlines", and leaves it at that.

OK, for context, where/when did this conversation take place?

the conversation took place at LHR. I was quite surprised so asked the BA person to confirm.

My travel agent thinks it is BA that is leaving OW (& they certainly give more benefits to AA & IB pax).

As to QF not needing a EU partner: EK etc do not fly within Europe so some partnership on this continent is still needed and who would want to fly with an American carrier across the pond? Not me! esp if going to Canada

QF could extend the Finnair code share agreement to cover most of Europe, they could also pair up with Air Berlin for intra EU flights. Why would you want to fly via the EU to NA? sure from WA the East coast of NA is pretty much half way around but you can fly QF to NY/DFW and then codeshare on AA from there. Not sure I really understand the issue.

That makes sense, the termination of the JSA would affect them more so seem bigger.

BA are linked with IB and AA in a separate group - hence the greater beneifits than O/W.

I often need to go to EU and Canada so crossing the pond on RTW is the best option.

AY is not an option for intraEU flights if not within the nordic region and I do not rate them for longhaul. AirBerlin is good, but verging on unviable but these options both imply staying in OW.

None

The only thing they co-operate on is the relative size of each other's appendage, in hope they have the biggest one this time around.

QF jumping into bed with AB who is part owned by EY while entering into a JSA with EK who is EY's biggest competitor!

I doubt it!
