Just wondering if anyone has insights into the following: on a flight from Singapore to London on 21st August, Qantas Singapore site has listed for QF30:

First Saver + First

doing a dummy booking there are four (4) available fares in each category.

NOW, my question is: are there 4 seats in First, split between 2 fares, or 8 seats in all available?

Trying to work out best options for greater likelihood of an points upgrade.

Cheers,
JetLagged.

F4 A4 means Qantas are willing to sell up to 4 seats in the F cabin in either Full (F) or discount (A) first class.

Buy two seats and this would generally change to F2 A2 ...

So only 4 seats available in toto, rather than 8.

Thanks serfty - at least flying on Saturday has better availability than either the Thursday or Friday preceeding.

Not necessarily. A may reduce but F may stay the same. A4 just indicates that currently up to 4 can be booked in A and F4 that up to 4 booked in F. When a booking is made one or both counts may change

Not necessarily; it means Qantas are willing to sell four seats in F and four in A; no more, no less. However, with Qantas it generally works as per the example I gave.

You could see F6 A2 and the purchase of two F "seats" may change that to F4 A0 or F6 A0 or F4 A2 (or F6 A2).

The example I gave above for F4 A4 is what typically happens with Qantas [Yield Management].

And people wonder why it is important, good, necessary to join FrequentFlyer - when you have these nice conundrums, so good to have experts in the know!

Many thanks, serfty and Dave.

Just run with the flow and hope to the great high god of frequrnt flyers - whoever she may be.

And is gets even more confusing when considering through-flights where the sale of a seat on one sector may affect availability on the other or the through combination. e.g. QF31 consists of SYD-SIN, SIN-LHR and SYD-LHR. Its possible that SYD-SIN and SIN-LHR may show F0 while SYD-LHR may show F2 meaning they are willing to sell 2 F seats on the through service, but are not willing to sell any F seats on either of the individual sectors SYD-SIN and SIN-LHR even though there are remaining empty seats on those sectors.
