Keep posting the photos and menu.

It is good to have confirmation that I am not missing out on anything special.

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better.

Other than that, I get it you don't care. Well done.

I am hardly ever around when "Island Dining" is on so interested to see what they are offering.

I guess they are trying to do something different but those meals really do not have any appeal to me.

Now a hot dog or some party pies (note NOT gourmet Neil Perry party pies) would go down really well.

If this is not tongue-in-cheek I am guessing you are missing the whole point of a premium lounge offering!

I don't think I've ever seen anything resembling "island dining" - is there a published/unpublished availability time?

The most I've seen is cake in the cake glass container, and once I saw a staff member in BNE J lounge going around with a plate of food (which was pizza iirc).

MEL J Lounge this morning.

Baked egg florentine.

These are available in the buffet at the BNE J Lounge, so find it slightly odd that it is Island Dining in MEL (... Is it dining if its not dinner??...;))

Staff member was placing menus on the middle Island across from the barista with cutlery settings from about 6:30am, and was also then offering the menu to others seated at the Islands on either side. Didn't see whether they were going further abroad to offer to others in the lounge.

I'm happy to repeat that in Sydney I see it from about 6pm to about 730pm. I would guess that the plate of food was the island dining. It is surprising to see the number of people who serve themselves from the buffet, sit at the long table and are then surprised to be offered the "plate of the day".

I suggest you re-read this thread from post #1. There's some anecdotal information contained therein.

I have been following this thread since post #1. I have never seen it (except as mentioned in post #248. Certainly never seen anything like post # 249 for example).

I guess my point is it's fairly useless unless there's a defined period or product....

Thanks medhead. I've been there (SYD J) at that time (only once or twice) and not seen it. I've even sat a the table at different times of the day, in many different J lounges, and not even had any interaction with staff, let alone be offered "dish of the day".

Guess I am to island dining what JohnK is to an on time departure...... ;)

See posts 5, 8 & 11, and a few others.

You basically have to be:

1-there at the right time, &
2-sit down at the "island" and look hungry/interested, maybe waving the menu around until served.

...

The "right time" is the hard part - it used to start at 6pm in MEL (Weekdays only) but in the last few months at least it has been starting at 6.30pm or later - by the time the first dish is brought out. It's not like the island is empty, either...

Haven't had it in a while because I haven't been there in the evenings... happy to hear a report from someone who is going through MEL in the evenings soon...

Thursday 23 May at 18:10 the island dining menus were put out. The trigger is the wine bucket/tub that is put out first, then come the menus. I was not sat at the island but collared the QFer and they brought two plates to my table (I was with a colleague).

I am generally on the 6PM flight (in seat 23J for the facebookers ;)) so don't often see it. If I am on the 7PM (when I do day trips I do the 7PM flight) then I actually try to have the meal as my dinner. A few weeks ago I was told that they weren't going to bother with it that evening as they had been busy earlier. A few minutes later and some words with the lounge manager and I was presented with the nice terrine plate...

JohnK - I also get that this isn't to your taste but generally it has been to mine - it is what makes us all different. if you want hot dogs - head over to Virgin. You are not going to get what you want in a QF lounge as they are consciously trying to provide a air of sophistication so will not be putting out villi's meat pies. That doesn't make them better or worse than you - just their brand proposition is different to your needs.
