It is possible to do both upgrademe points & upgrademe bid (cash)?

Hi, My upcoming Virgin Domestic Economy flight booking offers a choice to upgrademe for points (matching the standard upgrade award table) & another option to make a bid in cash for an upgrade.
I presume the points upgrade would only happen if they release a business class award seat (currently none available for that flight), whereas the paid upgrade might happen even if they don't open up any award seats.
Is there any harm in taking up both upgrademe options?
Presumably they won't charge me for both?
This is on a 737 which currently has 8 business seats with only 2 being selected (although other people could have booked without selecting a seat).
The flight is about 7 weeks away.
I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
Cheers, Gary.

There's no harm in making both bids. However, they are on separate systems, so if your award upgrade comes through, ensure you cancel your cash bid at that time. Cash upgrades are mostly done 1-2 days out. The award one would likely happen first, and once the cash bid upgrades have been issued, there is not likely to be award upgrades issued so less of a concern the other direction.
