For what it was, Jasper had the most overpriced accommodation in which I've stayed anywhere in the world.

Yeah, I hear you. We're paying $300 per night for a basic lodge room. And that's about 40 minutes out of Jasper! :0

Then you haven’t been to Alaska. One hotel in Denali was rock bottom IMO

I need to book my car hire for the Rockies.

I’m a bit gun shy after a horrific car hire (extortion) experience in Italy last year.

I’d really appreciate any recommendation of reputable car hire companies that you’ve used before. Preferably pick up in Vancouver (or airport).

There was a snow holiday wholesaler in Brisbane we used for cars in Colorado in winter.

They were giving away top end ski gloves.

We got $300 worth with total car booking of $600.

Will see if I still have details.

For out last trip in August 2017 we used Thrifty. Picked up the car from Vancouver Airport (YVR) and dropped off at Calgary Airport (YYC) after a week in the Rockies. I'm always a bit nervous with car hire companies, particularly overseas, even though I haven't had any major disasters. However, no problems and all went very smoothly. I always check the vehicle thoroughly beforehand and taker plenty of photos.

always find it much cheaper to go through a wholesaler than direct to car rental companies, especially for one ways.
