J Class observations

IF NM is right then is it only PJs that is different in J class service between 3 class and 2 class . Maybe interesting to see if our frequent fliers can spot other discrepancies. I did think the food service /selection also appeared better on the LHR-Mel flight but maybe it was a perception.
Shall we continue?

Both QF176 LAX-BNE and QF26 LAX-AKL-MEL are 2-class services. One of the criteria for business class PJs is that it must be a 3-class flight. How QF justify this discrimination of the long-haul international business class product between 2 and 3 class services is beyond my comprehension.

There musn't be a place to store the PJ's on the 2 class 744. ;)

Interesting that some (but not all) airlines who don't offer first class on long hauls (NZ, VS, IB) position their product as being superior to regular J class (Business Premier, Upper Class, Business Plus) whereas QF's 2 class long haul J is actually inferior to the J on their 3 class long haul (although really, it is only a marginal difference, if I was paying $8K+ for a J class and did want PJ's to change into I am sure I could find some in a shop to take with me for a very small amount of money, albeit not designed by Morrisey  )

Do you have a problem with this :?:

I would say not... but i would say the only chance i am going to own a set of PJ's that is designed by anybody who will put there name to them is if i do one of this flights.... I want my PJ's ! just so i can say i got a pair and see what they are like. :)

...and then you think: do I really want some grey PJs with a bl**dy big Kangaroo on the front

A problem with PJ's designed by Morrisey, or a problem with PJ's not designed by Morrisey? Don't really care who designed the PJ's, the crockery, the seat or the food. As long as the seats comfortable, the food & drink is good, and the AVOD works, oh .... and most importantly that I get there in one piece.

Note that ot not even all 3-class services that get them, but only those considered important enough. The criteria is that the departure is late night and its a long flight. So SYD-LAX does not get it (not a late night departure) but LAX-SYD does. And on a LHR-SIN-MEL flight, only the LHR-SIN segment gets it.

As far as I can tell, there are no other differences in the J product between long-haul flights, be they 2-class or 3-class, 744 or A330. The discrimination is just in the provision of PJs on some 3-class routes where QF seems to believe the passengers are more deserving on the extra service. Of course there is no discount offered if flying on a non-eligible PJ flight.

hmm, maybe, i don't have any to know.... also i was actually not aware there was a big red kangaroo on the front, i expected some small logo or similar.

Funny. SIN-FRA-SIN gets no PJ's even though it's a night service both ways and the only reason it's 2 class is because QF don't have enough 3 class aircraft in service even though there is demand for F on this route.

As to the OP's comments about the new AA 'flat' seat, I dont agree, it is shorter and narrower than the Skybed and i found it pretty poor for a modern J product, albeit better than the old AA product.

QF30 leaves LHR at lunchtime 12:20 pm so not a late departure. By way kagaroo is grey but large

My point exactly about 2-class services being considered as less important by QF management. When QF5/6 was operated as 3-class, it was always the best option for scoring an upgrade to F as the demand for F on that routes was always lower than from LHR. QF made their decision on how many aircraft to convert to 2-class based on their desire to operate 2-class to FRA, so I am not sure I agree with your view of why it no longer 3-class.

I concur.

Yes, but it is my understanding that QF30 LHR-HKG does not get PJs in J because it is not a late night departure.

Hmm, is that now a regular enhancement for that flight? It was not in the original list of PJ flights. Lets now hope the PJs spread to all overnight long-haul J services, regardless of the route or aircraft type.

Yes it's a regular for the QF30 on the LHR-HKG sector as mentioned in a earlier post one of 2 additional flights added to the orignal list of flights.

And the Kangaroo on the front is neither red or gray - it's black on gray pyjamas :-)

In the words of Bruce: "Speeeessshhhel"

Have just flown J on IB JFK-MAD.It is a capsule seat and suited me better than QF so was able to sleep. No PJs.Only 2 classes on IB.Service was atrocious.Food inedible.Decided to have the lamb dish.Should have known it would be a problem when only lamb was left by the time I was served.someone had emptied the whole salt container into the meal.Funny as their inflight magazine had an article on high blood oressure stating prominently the role of a high salt intake.Cant comment on breakfast as thy did not serve us breakfast although all the spaniards got served.capped of when the announced we were preparing to land at MAD 40 minutes before touchdown and I got up to put my book away and the FA pushed asise 5 other pax doing the same to scold me.A shrug of the shoulders,it is wonderful to be unable to understand a language some times!
In April this year gor PJs in JAL J from JFK-NRT and it was a daytime flight.
None of course when QF BNE-LAX.

Yes, it may be that QF decided that there was not adequate demand for an F service on this route, the 744's that were converted to 2 class had been 3 class, but I think they are mostly the older 744's in the fleet and will almost certainly be first to retire. So I guess it was an active decision about yield.

We are therefore in furious agreement that if there is no F class, even though some passengers may want it, there is even more reason for QF to provide the best quality J that they can.

The 2-class 744s are delivery numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10 out of a fleet of 21 aircraft delivered to QF. But if you include the 747-400ER and the three ugly sisters (all of which are 3-class), its 7 aircraft our of a fleet of 30.
