J Class seat advice

We have been assigned seats 12F and 12D in J for flight SQ228 MEL-SIN on a B777-300ER. We have no children and would like to avoid them if at all possible, no offence, just too old for children and too young for grandchildren sort of age. Is this the mini cabin I hear about? If so stay or go? TIA

Expert flyer has all seats taken in the mini cabin, with lack of bulkhead seats think we may be in luck, so feel like we may stay. Has anyone been seated in this section, and if so was it nice?

Thanks mate, I had read through about the last 50 pages of tips and tricks with nothing resembling answers to my query. But can move my post if you think it wise. Seem to remember you are not a SQ man otherwise would have planned to ask you on Saturday at the tour.

I few a couple of times with them in J in past few years. When people are already booked SQ, I tend to keep mum on what I think. I don't like SQ J these days! I used to love and prize it, but their configs these days I find very uncomfortable. EG SQ MEL-SIN 777.

12D/F are indeed in the forward "mini cabin":in my fairly extensive experience, it is most unlikely there will be any kids in this area (the bassinet seats are further back).

Depends what you mean by kids! Bear in mind the bassinets are only for young babies (our kids couldn’t fit in the bassinet by about 8 months!)

FWIW, we have been seated in that mini cabin on numerous occasions with our two kids over the past few years, from when the youngest was aged only 2. I can assure you that our kids have always been well behaved, and to be honest that has been my general experience when travelling solo too (near other people’s kids). However, don’t be surprised if you are close to young kids anywhere on the plane - regardless of cabin.

However, don’t be surprised if you are close to young kids anywhere on the plane - regardless of cabin.

I know, just a wish, but we are realistic and know that there is always a chance. Most kids are well behaved, and when they cry and grizzle you can not blame them, or their parents. We always felt so embarrassed traveling when our kids, now adults, were very young. My wife is a teacher, on her holidays, so perhaps that best explains a wish to avoid in a perfect world. It will be her first time in J international ever, so will be a fabulous experience regardless. She admitted yesterday she is more excited about the flights, than Paris. ( she has done Paris more than I have ) merci.

If flew similar times SYD-SIN on the 777-300 ER in the same cabin, same row. We had 2 children (approx 10 and 13). They were very quiet, plugged into the IFE. I think the issue is with parents bringing in <5 year olds and babies into J. I do find that noise cancelling headphones cancel out a crying baby.

Yes dxwell, pre teens and teens not a drama at all. It is 2-3 year olds and younger that becomes a problem. Noise cancelling headphones have been my must take item for many years. Prior I always had ear plugs, and actually find they block crying out better, but it depends on the pitch.

I'd support a ban in the forward J cabin for this age group.

We flew only once between Australia and NZ with a 2 1/2 yo. Never again, was horrible for us, and all in the cabin. Thankfully he is 17 now.
