Ads that is really disappointing - I fully understand youir frustration and I also avoid 237 in J like the plague - I wasn't aware 77W was ever on that flt.

When you say you have called the 'call centre' - you mean KF in SIN on 02 8228 1188? I would call them back and ask can you speak to a Team Leader - fully explain to them that this is your maiden SQ J voyage and you really want to maximise your enjoyment and please can they assist you to somehow get onto a 77W / 77WN bird into either MEL or SYD - you will lose nothing by asking nicely.

Unfortunately my new contact their has gone AWOL so I am back to square one - however I did achieve some excellent flt changes just couple weeks back by asking / asking / asking for what I was originally told not achievable but indeed what I firmly believed was achievable.

Thanks CE, yeah it's been that number you suggested. They seem pretty powerless to change things, one even suggested I cancel the whole booking and start again but don't fancy seat availability for any flight if I did it at this stage! Sent one final courteous email outlining my frustrations to local au email address, they sympathize and have arranged another call back from KF team but I suspect it will be the same result. Still, it's better than economy, just not quite as special as I was hoping! Let me know if that contact of yours resurfaces, I suspect that would be my only hope from here!

On a side note, what should I book the cook to cook for us?! I'm planning on making FULL use of the inflight food/beverages to make up for the disappointing bird!!!

You are in the window between booking "really early" and "last minute" ..... so I wouldn't expect availability to magically appear. 1-4 months before travel is probably the worst time for availability. I would expect that the situation may change (for the better, in all likelihood, but if commercial bookings are high, could be worse, or at least status quo for you) about 2 weeks before travel. So keep a close watch on it. Are they not even able to waitlist you on the desired flight(s)?

CE - love seafood... I think the lobster will definitely be featuring! I also saw a recent AusBT article with a fancy looking Japanese inspired breakfast dish which looked interesting too.

Dajop - You've hit the nail on the head with our booking timing window! We can't really change the return flight as we're connecting from the Maldives and while the seat isn't the best, it's not really worth the expense and inconvenience of spending another night in Singapore on the return. The only other option would be the A380 into Sydney which leaves 45mins after SQ237 but again this means another annoying domestic flight at the end of the trip when I suspect we'll just want to be home! It also seems very problematic for them to change the destination on a booking so I think that option is also out.

Somewhere along the line we've been waitlisted for SQ228 on the outbound which is on the better plane so fingers crossed that becomes available as that fits in with our schedule timings still (stopping in Singapore for a few nights on the way there anyway). Any advice on when to call them back to try and get it upped to a confirm?

Ads it is no big deal at all to change dest port - you can do that yourself online if you see availability.

When you say you have been W/L on 228 o/b do you mean this flt has been added as a W/L to your existing booking. If YES that is good - will be a prob if it is a seperate WL as things have changed a bit in background in KF land recently.

It's been added to the existing booking, only noticed it last night when I logged in. I had been locked out of the manage online booking for a while since the Male flight arrival changed by 5 mins and I kept getting an error saying I would be contacted by them soon and it wouldn't let me progress further (to add to my frustration)!!!

So it's showing as flight number '2' when you scroll through the list of flights on the booking, ie. 1. MEL-SIN (238) confirmed 2. MEL-SIN (228) Waitlist. 3. SIN-MLE 4. MLE-SIN 5. SIN-MEL

So that's a good thing then?

Yes that's a good thing - if flt timings change yes you are screwed re changing anything til you call them and they reset for you - it's very common.

Waitlist cleared on the outbound so at least I get to experience 1 leg in the better seat, much happier now. Again, thanks for all the help and advice on here. Have just finished reading the book the cook thread on here... so many choices!
