J Savers on A345

After reading the post in another thread by lmere12 (so thanks for the head's up) on the Saver J availability to Milan a couple of days ago I did a bit of research and have booked 3 J's return MEL-MXP over Easter School Holidays.

I could only ever get 2 Firsts....but could get all 3 in J and as my daughter is under 18 and cannot fly by herself I opted for the 3Js.

Getting 3 J's to Europe is great as normally one can only get 2.

Besides timing is perfect..fly out a day after School finishes and return on the Anzac Day replacement public holiday on the 26th, the day before school recommences.

I thought the voucher could only be used for Y or J upgrade.
Well done on a good use of voucher and saver awards.

Yeah just Y awards or Y to J or J to F upgrades.
I played around with quite a few dummy bookings & found the Westpac voucher works with F savers on one way bookings, but the degree of discount varied. For example PER-SIN-FRA-JFK is mixed saver business/first is normally 97,700 miles with the voucher it was 90,000 (7,700 saving) & PER-SIN-FRA normally 78,625 came to 67,500 with the voucher (11,125 saving).

After "playing" with the Modify This Booking on SQ for a bit I managed to change for 50 K per person extra my 3 Saver Js flights on 777-300 MEL-SIN and 700-300ER MXP to:

3Js on the A380 and 3 Firsts on the 777-300 ER.. plus 2 days earlier when I earlier could not get availability.

So that has optimised things :
* time wise fly out on the last day of school term (one of our 3 is my school-aged daughter)...and fly back in the day before term starts.
* have upgraded the standard of each flight.
* Reduce the layover en-route to Milan in Singapore from 19.5 hours down to 9.5 hours PLUS now get to spend that in The Private Room at Changi if we choose to, and will for at least part of that time if not all..;)

Will be my first chance to use The Private Room as well my first First Class flight. So that will be a treat.

I still believe that entry to The Private Room is not guaranteed purely by holding a F ticket. After all, they have the Silver Kris First Lounge which caters for F passengers, and that entry to TPR is still by invitation or holding a full fare F ticket on the A380.

I had a friend who travelled in 2009 on an award ticket SIN-LHR on the A380 and still was not given access to TPR.

That said, many months ago, I did get access to that lounge holding a F award and my review;

Anyone holding a departing F or R ticket with SQ can access the TPR, but you are not allowed to guest anyone into TPR (You can guest one person into the first class lounge).

Not according to SQTALK...that was the rule originally that AWARD F's did not gain entry. But as long as you have a departing SQ F or R Boarding Pass you now gain entry. The invitation may still be issued, but if not you will still gain entry as long as you have a Boarding Pass.

PS: Thanks for the link to your report and pics. On the activity (or lack of!!)...my 14 year old will no doubt choose the lounge with the biggest touchscreen computer...even if that is the SilverKris Lounge.

If thats the new access policy, then I guess its a good thing for award travellers.

But if you're full fare R pax, you might be pretty upset that TPR is no longer that private anymore.

I've been a few times, it never gets busy anyway. I've seen maybe 8 people max in the TPR at once, which would have been around 2200-2400 when quite a few long haul European flights depart.

Cheers Cruiser Elite, Just booked 2 x F savers PER-SIN-MXP in July will be heading to the German F1 with the other half.

OT: Nurburgring! I went to 2009, what a venue, if you haven't been before it will blow you away.

As it is only for SQ ..and awards, by the fact that that they are F awards, it will keep the extra numbers low. as there are simply not that many F Award seats per flight.

SQ have a form which can be signed and allows Under 18s to travel by themselves while parents it up front.

1/ My reference was with respect to separate flights, and not just different cabins on the same plane. With this "glitch" it was not possible for me to book 2 Fs + I J on the one plane (or at least on my dates). When I nominated F....the 747 came up on the MEL-SIN leg. If I picked J, it swapped to a 773.

2/ Now yes I am aware of that technically yes she could have still travelled by herself on a separate plane.....but what I meant was by "cannot'..was that neither her nor I wanted it that way.

However by later searching I was able to amend this to get 3 F's on the SIN-MXP leg.
