J TO Bali on Virgin is Below Jet* standard.

This is a really interesting thread. I have flown Garuda, Air Asia, Jetstar amongst others (was scheduled to fly DJ until they stuffed up my booking) but now exclusively choose QF. Sure they have their shortcomings but compared to the opposition (in Oz and Asia) at least, they are miles ahead IMHO.

And how exactly does one go exclusively with QF to Bali these days?

To be fair, it's not like the people going to Bali are really important enough for a nice plane.

Exactly (although "important enough" probably isn't the term I'd use) - but if there was demand for international standard J class direct to Bali on an Australian carrier, QF would still be flying there and DJ would be flying A330s.

DJ has already tried short haul international full service - to NAN and HKT - and it was a disaster. Of course the A330s are much smaller and a lot better suited to those routes than the 777s were but I think they can still find a lot better uses for them.

Must be pretty bad to be worse than Jestars J.

Could you hosties speak English?

Or it could be that some find the idea of 5+ hours more appealing then 5 hours in a 737, even if the actual product is similar-ish

I've done 100+ flights on DJ and VA over the past 7 or 8 years.

The HKT-PER 737 route is the only flight I would never, ever do again. As others have said, the 737 is not designed for flights this length.

Yikes! I'll let you know if I survive. Its the overnight horror flight too. So far, looking at EF, theres only 3 of us in J so I'm hoping it won't break my will to live :) Mind you, I'm not flying till DEC so plenty of time for it to fill up. I notice that Y is chockers already.
