Jakarta Visa on Arrival, is it easy?

Has anyone been through Jakarta recently and done the visa on arrival?

I've done it in Bali before and was able to pay card which was very easy however smart traveller is say the following thing about Jakarta that they only accept cash:

"For the VOA, some airports, including Jakarta's international airport, are only accepting cash payment. Card payment facilities are available at Bali's international airport. ATM facilities may be in high demand. Be prepared to pay in cash if required. "

Are there ATMs easily accessible or would it be wise to do an evisa online before hand?

Well Jakarta does have e gates so doing an eVisa should make it easier to get through the airport. Then no worries about finding an ATM etc.
I know I would go the eVisa way even though I found the website a bit clunky.

I did recently, I did the visa thing online including payment, so I recommend that - then no need to do anything at the airport.

Last year I did it in Bali you walked past an extra counter, taped your card for ~$50 and they stuck the visa in the passport, the whole process took 30 seconds with no hassle of having to upload via a website however if the egates for Australian's visiting Indonesia are now a thing then I'll give the online process a try.

I'm close to pulling my hair out on this one.

I've tried multiple computers (Mac/Windows), multiple browsers (chrome, edge, safari), multiple internet connection and different sized photos (some png, some jpg but all under 2mb) with nothing working.

It uploads both the passport page and photo then on pressing the next button it just spins for 20 seconds before resetting or if I'm lucky a 504 gateway timeout error.

Maybe just try later, could be a temporary problem.

Also, you have to do it relatively quickly once you begin, otherwise the session will time out.

Last year when I flew into CGK on QF with eVOA printout in hand, the arrivals hall was deserted. I don’t recall seeing the similar setup to DPS for VoA but presumably there is something?

Your list of questions, especially do I need cash and what currency are all good reasons to do the eVOA online - it’s not that hard. The clunky bit is the address of your hotel but once you realise you can enter the post code first, most of the myriad of other details are filled in for you.

There was talk of Indonesia dropping the visa for Oz visitors by Feb. That obviously hasn’t happened yet but hopefully it’s still going through the bureaucracy? So I’d leave applying for the eVOA until a few days out.

Last year when I flew into CGK on QF with eVOA printout in hand, the arrivals hall was deserted.

I flew QF into CGK about 2 weeks ago. Yes the arrivals hall was empty however there was a queue of about 80 people waiting for a visa on arrival. As you come down into the arrivals hall the visa on arrival is a seperate area off to the right, everyone else just continues straight then wraps around the corner towards immigration (set up is a little different to Bali where it's all in the one big immigration hall). I'm glad I got the e-visa because it meant no waiting and directly through to an egate. I was outside through immigration and customs in less than 5 mins after stepping off.

Before this trip I'm looking at, the only time I've needed a visa was for an overnight connection at AMM. Everything else has been with visa wavier/visa free travel.
At AMM, I just had to hand over USD at a booth then join the immigration queue.

Think of it like an ESTA.

Besides, it’s easy to do online and peace of mind that you just use the eGate. I didn’t have that option last year but will definitely do the eGate in a few months time!

Keep an eye on the news / here in case they do drop the $50 eVOA. Fingers crossed they do or at least reintroduce the short term transit visa….

I‘m also putting a reminder in my diary to apply for the eVOA closer to my next departure…

I'm very very tempted as I was invited by the organisers, but at the moment I have a booked flight for the following Thursday to start an OWA rewards.

Unfortunately not that I’m aware.

This thread prompted me to go back into their system. All my details are still there from last year, so should be easy to apply again, but I’d rather not have to pay for 2x single entry eVOAs.

If it doesn't look like they are going to improve the visa options for AU passports in the next week, I guess I'd better go do this evisa thing.
