For when you are in the Kansai area (Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Nara), I can recommend getting the Kansai Thru Pass. It includes access to the local subways and trains, as well as entry to many of the tourist attractions.

And for Osaka itself, there's the Osaka Amazing pass, which again includes subway access and entry to tourist attractions.

Please do.
I booked a 3* Michelin sushi restaurant to splurge out for one night but other then that I'm open to suggestions.

That would be Jiro's? In the metro station?
I heard they would not cater for non japanese speaking anymore...

Anyway I sent you the address and had many reports that it was on par with Jiro's sushis. You will be able to confirm (or not)! :D

And if you are into 3* Michelin restaurant, try Joel Robuchon. You might get a table if you are lucky and it's worth visiting especially over lunch (very affordable fine cuisine). Most fine dining places in Japan offer cheap lunch set btw.

That's how seat 1A looks like.

Today I'm not the DYKWIA seating there :)

It's called Ginza Kyubey.
They don't accept bookings from overseas so I had to call our hotel and ask the concierge to book for us.

Time for the Japanese degustation.
Some very interesting flavours, all in all an excellent meal.

It was a bit too sweet for me so moved back to Salon.
Felt peckish so orders a Japanese snack.

I'll have salmon sashimi any day of the week if I could, it's the perfect snack.
Going to have a nap, hope everyone is enjoying my TR so far.

Revenue F?! I don't think so :p
It was a very very special USDM redemption ;)
USDM without going to GUM? :o How many miles did you get charged for it?
Btw did you notice if 1A, 1K or 2G were available for pre-selection? From what I have read, they only open it to those booked in the F fare bucket or their VIPs.. don't know what happens at T-24..

Yes there are better JL F cabins.

Looks like new F to me?
Pics to compare the two:

Brown = new?

You are right Kangol.
It is just I have this picture in my mind for our September trip-

Kyubey is quite good. Went there in 2013 after an excursion to the kabuki. We managed to meet the main chef who is quite renowned. Enjoy!

The bed was very comfortable, looking forward to a good sleep on the return night flight.
Time for second serve. I selected the Japanese option again and it didn't disappoint.

At some point I was told the Salon is finished. Apparently they loaded only three bottles and they are all gone. Oh well, I'm probably the one most to blame for that so can't really complain. Maybe it's a sign to stop with the alcohol and try other things. While browsing through the menu I found this interesting tea.
ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1426148376.259925.jpg
Yes, it's tea served in wine bottle. It was nice and refreshing.
Later I had coffee which came with a cute little sand clock that showed when to press the plunger.

Love the coffee mugs.

Boomy's picture is definitely JL's latest F suite. It's supremely comfy, especially when the latex mattress pad goes on top.
Best sleep I have had on any aircraft - either that or the Salon might have helped :D

As soon as I made the booking I called JAL SYD office. There were no restrictions and all seats were available for selection over the phone.
Same thing with CX btw, I was looking at ExpertFlyer the other day to change my seating and some seats in F were shown as premium members only or something like that but when I called CX I could select any seat I wanted although I'm not a member of their FF programme.

Forgot to mention JAL prepares the rice onboard and it's indeed delicious.
The service during the flight was attentive and super polite. One thing I appreciate is attention to details. Just a small example, when I changed to PJ the FA took my clothes to hang them up and after I changed back she took my PJ, folded it nicely, put it in the cover and handed it back to me later. These kind of small gestures complete a first class experience and Asian airlines seem to do it best.

I'm really enjoying your TR thanks boomy.

How I love everything about Japan - I got back from a ski trip to a few resorts in Hokkaido just over 2 weeks ago and I'm missing it already!
Looking forward to the rest of your posts.
