The next 5-10 years will be very interesting for Australian aviation.

And despite various protection mechanisms the airlines will have taken I will be very interested to see what happens in the longer term if fuel prices go up significantly and our dollar goes down significantly. Spaghetti hitting proverbial fan!

(might help our own tourism industry though which is really suffering in most areas currently)

I think VBA's % of international passengers carried had ranked 3/4 for about 4 years, but it was only when Pacific blue & V Australia were merged to VAIH that BITRE combined the figures.

By VBA I mean All virgin blue group majority owned airlines.

Don't ruin markis10s happy little world!! ;)

I wouldn't take offence - the reporter is a bit of a flake her articles are usually fluffy and puff with little substance, this one is no exception.

yep, does anyone know who she actually is? ie background, job (other than writing for AFR), etc etc
I enjoy her articles but indeed they are all a bit nose-in-the-air.
But, hey, we all want to be in the pointy end too :)

...

Reading Top cost is second rate from the same author I do laugh...

The author lost me in the second paragraph/third sentence with: "I’d enjoyed a week of first-class intra-Europe flights with BA and Air France" ...

... umm BA/AF don't have "First Class" cabins "intra-europe".

It certainly does jaundice one's views for the rest of the article when a bollocks statement is made early on!
