It all sounds so good, doesn't it. How long before those Gold and Platinum cards turn into Silver cards with orange stars on them?

Will Qantas be visiting BKK in 2 years time?...
It does not really matter as long as they still visit SIN or HKG in 2 years time! Then Finnair to BKK and you have avoided flying with a LCC.

Or BA or TG direct :!:.

I'm curious to know if the fares on the site now (the sale is all sold out) will be the regular fares. For instance, SYD-BKK-SYD appears to have an "everyday" Jetsaver fare of $425 each way plus taxes (ie: $1151 return incl taxes). Add on meals and PTV and the "base" fare is $1221. This is the most restricted fare.

To compare, QF's equal fare (for the same dates) is $1094, TG's $853, BA's $922, SQ's $1126, MH's $1182 and EK's $942. The only one JQ is cheaper than is CX at $1255.

While this sale has offered some excellent fares (which I've taken advantage of!), I don't think we should get too used to JQ offering fares any lower than the rest of the competition.

I should have mentioned OneWorld.
In which case your only choices are BA and QF. There are no OneWorld LCC operators operating AUS-BKK services. And BA's WT+ would be one of the better value "premium" fares on that route, with very good QF and AA status earning potential - with the other advantage of generous baggage allowance ;).

You do now have JQ option to BKK (via MEL from SYD) that may earn on the Qantas FF program, so far on Sun, Mon & Thu each way;

Excluding approx $300 in + for the RT, one way fares are currently:

JetSaver: $295 no points/sc's (no way!)

JetFlex: $535 Full Y earn on QFF (hmmm ..)

StarClass: $735 Full J earn on QFF (also 30KG baggage) (SC run anyone ;) (*This is a promotional fare; wonder what the normal cost would be) )

The JetFlex fare would earn at least 120 SC's for the RT, StarClass would be 240 SC's.

Oneworld direct! Yes. My previous reference to LCC was to avoid JQ AUS-BKK and still flying OneWorld assuming that QF pulled out of BKK in 2 years time.

BA/QF via SIN with AY connection as mentioned or even QF/CX via HKG with AY/CX connection.

With current JQ non sale fares I do not think that it is a realistic option to any destination even taking into consideration jetflex and star class.

About $1720 I believe. when I looked at fares when they were 1st out istr that that was the starclass fare which made it marginally cheaper than the current WT+ BA fare, though WT+ only earns Full SCs but does run daily

Dave

I note that JQ are now indicating Millenium Seats (What is StarClass?)
... Jetstar’s new StarClass features 'Millennium' seats - extra wide leather seats with adjustable lumbar support, headrests with wings, and a 38" pitch.
Leather had been mentioned, so I guess maybe they'll have leather covered millenium style seats ...

The promo starclass fares have now finished and MEL_BKK_MEL currently shows online at $835 +++ each way. This comes out at about $1970 for the RT. So that $1670 base for the return; I believe this may still be a discounted fare. Expert Flyer is showing a little more than that:
Code:
JRT JQ J Round-Trip 1728.00 (AUD)
JOW JQ J One-Way 893.00 (AUD)

Why is it that CHC-BKK via MEL shows having starclass but BKK-CHC via MEL does not (not saying sold out just not showing at all)?

star class ex BNE to BKK even better value 955+++ for 160 SCs each way
Note that initially all JQ 332 services to BKK are routed via MEL so the the BNE flights get extra SC's/points etc getting to/from Tullamarine.

Here's a routing table (.pdf):
Flight Schedule

I did a dummy booking. The BNE-MEL vv legs are on QF mainline (with 4 digit JQ code).

Ex SYD seems to be the same price as ex-BNE.

If BKK is not your thing, similar deals for HKT. Since longhaul flight is from SYD, best origins are ADL or BNE.

How does anyone GET these cheap fares? I was trying to get on the website (it had crashed), as soon as I got the email from JetStar and had left my requests with 3 different travel agents (ANY of the fares, from ANY time between now and the end of the sale) and still no joy (even the travel agents couldn't log onto the webiste, they told me). What's the secret? (I want to get cheap Hawaii if they're offered!

Web site ONLY; the specials were "sold Out" by Monday morning.

Welcome to AFF cinogirl :)

The launch specials were online only. Join the club of unable to access jetstar website until the sale was sold out

IMHO some of their regular fares are still okay value.

<quota>Qantas Frequent Flyers travelling on a Jetstar StarClass fare for flights operated by Jetstar (JQ) will earn equivalent points per mile and Status credits as earned on Qantas business flights.</Quota>

JQ flights in starclass are quite cost effective as far as status run goes?

an example:

SYD <-> BKK
- QF Business will cost ~AUD$4500
- JQ StartClass will cost ~AUD $1900
