Jetconnect 737-800

Yes you would be very unlucky to get a QF bird subbing for a Jetconnect 73H. Have fun and enjoy the AVOD :)

Not really, VZT has been in pretty heavy rotation subbing for Jetconnect birds in the last month amongst others, at least it's a comparable equipment level, but that means TJJ and her sisters are seeing more of Australia than originally intended, they should have saved more during their working life so they did not have to work during retirement!

I flew to Auckland and back about two weeks ago. The flight over was on Jetconnect, and the crew was as good as usual. In fact a couple of familiar faces from my earlier flights this year. However I was surprised and disappointed to return on a proper Australian Qantas flight and crew. The plane was older, the crew was older and not as friendly, just a bit of a general let down. I probably didn't check this when booking, as I just assumed that all NZ flights were Jetconnect these days.

From AKL they are. Don't know how long ago it was, but there was an issue with an aircraft and an aerobridge at BNE international and one ZK aircraft was taken out for some time for repairs.

"Qantas Source" says that AKL-SYD flights for the first half of this month were VH, then back to ZK, and with a range of aircraft. No big deal, but vaguely interesting.

Aaah that may explain it. That aero bridge must have come out of nowhere ;)

Thanks all for the responses. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a new bird...but I'll load up the iPad just in case!

a recent trip of QF25 with jetconnect from MEL-AKL that i took was somewhat quite the opposite! The plane was old - and i say OLD because the plastics inside the aircraft where not white, nor cream but yellow, aged yellow! And to be frank the plane stank.

The FA's were grumpy and can you believe, had the audacity to ask me to move from my J seat to a Y seat to allow a couple ( that had individualy booked tickets one in J and the other in Y) to take my seat so they could sit together. When i asked "will i get a refund", the response i got from the FA was, and i quote, " please sir dont be a nuisance, it is only a 3 hr flight im sure you will be fine back in economy" and then litterly pushed me down the cabin. Needless to say i was furious!

I will avoid Jetconnect from now on i think!

My answer would be ( with a big smile) no ! I won't be moving.

I'd have told them to stick it!! Actually come to think of it I have done something similar...... In J back from Melbourne to Brisbane seating in 1A waiting for push back when a couple got on very late. One sat next to me and one on the other side of the aisle. Just before push back lady next to me asked (no make that strongly suggested) that I move to the other aisle seat so she and hubby/bf could sit together. Maybe I am selfish but I like my 1A which Platinum Status usually guarantees and maybe if she'd asked me rather then told me I'd have agreed. But she didn't so I refused..... well what a drama! FA asked me to move using similar logic to your FA, i.e. you'll be just as comfy on the aisle. I reiterated that I would not move and as the gentleman in the other window seat was not moving either it was up to the star crossed lovers to get over it.

Am afraid I get a bit precious these days about my seat, particularly as I usually can book ahead so I go to the trouble to reserve my seat. So am I unreasonable?

definitely not unreasonable, i've done the same when flying TG business. someone had the nerve to ask me to move to a middle seat from my window so a couple could sit together. having carefully selected my seat well in advance i absolutely refused.

In my opinion - no.

I should have put this in the other thread about being asked to move. But what I've learnt to be the best answer when asked to do something that puts you out; is to say in a cheery voice "No thank you" and go back to looking out the window. There is no real come back from the other person. This works because:

It's polite.
It sounds like they were offering something to you, but you couldn't possibly put them out by actually taking up the offer.
Any possible objection makes them look bad.

Excellent advice - thanks medhead. Leaves them no-where to go at all. Unless its a direction from a FA/crew member - in which case they had better have a justification for it that will be defensible when the inevitable complaint form comes in.

Yep my wife has been using it on me for years. ;) The initial confusion caused by thinking how nice she's being allows her to go back to whatever and effectively close the conversation.
Clearly, my advice is not offered as a response to an official crew direction.

You could suggest they sit together further to the rear of the plane. Not sure but they might possibly find some obliging souls to sit up front instead.

What a small world it is - I was on the same flight as the OP (if it was on Monday) and sat in 4F. It left dead on time at 0630 so no wonder it arrived early. I didn't realise it was new but I noted the 'airbag' seatbelts that come with their own warning from the FAs. Good legroom in that row but the only negative is stowing the IFE before final approach so you miss the end of whatever you'd planned watching to the gate.

On the way back I was in 5D and the legroom wasn't as good but with no one in 5E there's plenty of elbow room. I must say it's a damn good walk to the gate at AKL though, the only INT 737 gates they have? They didn't page us in the QP but we left when the 'boarding' status appeared on the screen so they may have paged the flight later. Could watch on the IFE all the way in this time. Funnily enough I was watching a Simpsons episode and Homer is trying to land a blimp as it careers towards the ground. I wasn't looking out the window and had the weirdest sensation when the blimp was pulled up at the exact moment of touching down!
Talk about 4D! (not the seat).

Recently (within the last week or two) Qantas mainline has started operating QF45/46 SYD-CHC-SYD, freeing up a ZK aircraft to operate QF114 & QF 141 SYD-AKL-SYD. So now Jetconnect operates all TT flights to/from AKL and WLG but not flights to CHC or ZQN. (Although IMO it would be good if Jetconnect did operate these.)

Hi All - just an update. The flights there and back were indeed on new birds with AVOD. Managed to score a points upgrade on the way over too (return was already in J) which made for a nice flight. Courtesy of great tailwinds on the outbound, we shaved 50 mins off our flight time. We were in the hire car on our way to the hotel before we were due to even land!

How rude!

I would advise them to go and whistle Dixie......

I would like to know under what circumstances any airline would find this action defensible.

I couldn't imagine a safety or operational scenario that would require this?
