Jetstar applies for additional Indonesia capacity: proposes CNS-MEL-DPS / ADL-PER-DPS

It's defintiely weight restricted, the question is, is it weight restricted enough to make the route unviable.

I don't think so. Considering they have flown it previously, I think that's correct.

Has VA actually flown OOL-PER previously? I know they announced it, but I think they cancelled it before the first flight took off (after discovering how weight restricted it would need to be)...

Yep - it was a seasonal route, last flown just before Covid in 2020. The last flight is still on flightaware:

I think you're overstating the weight issue. VA operate other routes with more restrictions than this would have.

Used to do the Jetstar OOL-PER run on the a320 pretty regularly, didn’t notice any noticeable signs of weight restrictions (eg blocked seats). Noted it’s a different plane but largely comparable.

As above it's a minor weight limit if all the factors line up. And obviously they're not that bad if they can fly OOL-DPS.

A320 performance is quite a bit different, and often preferable to 737s.

Looks like QZ is launching flights between CNS and DPS:

I am surprised it’s taken this long. I would have thought that they would have introduced Neo flights DPS-East Coast also. Understand the heavy capacity from all players, but they are a strong low cost carrier, certainly would have the lowest cost base with its A321N vs it’s prior attempt at the 330.

Indonesian carriers are traditionally weaker on the AU POS when compared with their Australian counterparts. However QZ does buck the trend on their PER-DPS services, so it's good to see them having a go elsewhere again after their failed SYD/MEL attempts on the A330 (through the short lived Indonesia AirAsiaX) years ago.

Posted in the VA thread too, but for what it's worth the IASC has issued a draft determination awarding the capacity to QF/JQ.

As said in the VA thread, VA dropped the ball on this one. Unless if VA (or any of their supporters on the submissions) write up a good case to oppose the draft decision, I'd assume this 'Regional via Big 4' Indonesia capacity will be ratified to go to the JQ/QF group.

And fair enough too if VA dropped the ball.

Jetstar have applied for an allocation of 1624 seats and 7 frequencies per week beyond Denpasar to Singapore from 1 March 2025.

This comes out of the seat capacity allocation which permits up to 6640 weekly seats from certain ports in Indonesia to beyond points in Singapore, Malaysia or Thailand.

The services will operate as an extension of existing Melbourne to Denpasar services, meaning those seats will be freed up for use elsewhere by the Qantas Group.

Schedule:
JQ43 Daily MEL 0915 DPS 1325 32Q
JQ43 Daily DPS 1505 SIN 1745 32Q
JQ36 Daily SIN 1910 DPS 2150 32Q
JQ36 Daily DPS 2310 MEL 0645 32Q

Jetstar previously operated Perth-Denpasar-Singapore services under a similar arrangement.

So does that mean that gives them a further 7 frequencies on the Australia to Bali route?
