Hi,
We are traveling to Bali from Australia as a family of four (2 Adults x 2 children) with Jetstar. As our children are young we are trying to keep luggage to a maximum of 2 checked bags. We each have 15kg checked baggage allowance so I just wanted to clarify we can combine the luggage allowance so we only have to take two suitcases.
Thanks for your help,
Jane

Yes you can pool the "baggage allowance" .. however .. "Each single item has to weigh less than 32kg and is subject to occupational health and safety requirements and aircraft limitations." In other words standard type suitcases are OK but nothing which would be classed as bulky ..

Hello All.

I just want to clear up a previous (Closed), vague and unfinished thread so that there can be no doubt about pooling baggage with JETSTAR.

Despite the claims made on an earlier thread by Simon Westerway (representing Jetstar at that time), JETSTAR DO NOT ALLOW POOLING OF BAGGAGE.
Most other airlines will.

The claims by the authorised Jetstar representative remain un-verified in published terms and conditions and are eventually denied by the JETSTAR contact centre when pushed for a specific statement.

It is unclear if the claims were made out of ignorance or if there was intention by the JETSTAR representative on this forum to mislead. There is a lot of money to be made from customers misunderstanding the baggage limits

If you turn up at the airport with bags heavier than the purchased single ticket allowance YOU WILL BE CHARGED MASSIVE EXCESS BAGGAGE CHARGES, regardless of your combined purchased allowance.

I am travelling as a family of 4 with 20kg purchased allowance per passenger. I would much rather travel with 3 cases @ 25kg each than 4 @ 20kg, and this is the trap that is set for you. 15kg excess baggage costing $225.

Great way to start a holiday Thank you JETSTAR.

The 4 bags take up 33% more space in the hold than the 3 bags so you have to wonder at JETSTAR’s reasoning from a customer service perspective. Obviously there is more money to be made with vague baggage guidelines than there is using the 33% space saving for freight.

I learnt my lesson about flying with Jetstar during their first week of operation but this booking made by my wife via a travel agent slipped through my net.

A very timely reminder of why I use other airlines.

No doubt the current JETSTAR rep will have a reply to this post. If Simons claims are to be repeated, then please clearly amend the T&C’s and provide a link here so that we have something to produce to the airport Gestapo.

I don't think there is a current J* rep. Customer service is not their thing, they exist to fly you from one point to another, whilst fleecing you for extras.

You don't really need a lot of stuff to take with you to Bali so I would pack 1 x 15 kg bag with items for the 2 adults then another bag 1 x 15 kg with items for the kids.

You can either take a couple of collapsible duffel bags in the two suitcases so when you inevitably buy things in Bali you can fill up the other 2 bags so they don't exceed 15 kilos each. Otherwise just buy a couple of cheap bags in Bali for your shopping & souvenirs.

I did a recent trip to the US/Caribbean with hand luggage only.....well as far as our last stop in HNL that is.

Still when most rollaboards can be weigh 4-5kg, 15kg is not that much.

I have had my 3.5kg domestic sized Samsonite weigh 15kg, a true suitcase could weigh a lot more.
