What I ate today - the food thread

Celebrating somebody's birthday at Kimusabi on Enmore Road, Newtown.
P.S - all plant-based.

salmon sashimi: yuzu crème, citrus ponzu, crispy chilli oil, fragrant herbs

open fire chargrilled corn: miso and ginger sosu, togarashi, smoked hemp chizu

parsnip korokke: miso butter, shishito pepper, parsnip puree

There were more dishes after that, but I forgot to get them on film. Perhaps a sign of how much these were enjoyed - would definitely revisit.

After lunch - deliberately left room for dessert - a couple of doors down is Hakiki Turkish Ice Cream.

I had a "single scoop" (really 2 smaller scoops to accommodate 2 flavours): today was the day for Banana Cinnamon and Melon Feta.

Happy Birthday 🎉 to your dinner companion @RB001

So happy birthday to you @RB001 🎉
Thanks, @Flyfrequently 🤩
Actual day was the week before last, when I celebrated by going AKL-SYD-MEL-OOL departing at 6am!
To stay loosely on topic, my "cake" could theoretically be my welcome chocolates at thePullman AKL. (FYI for others - they provide a slip of paper listing allergens, but it appears to be non-specific to the individual treats.)

As an ALL Platinum, could choose tea/coffee plus juice o' the day plus a small (fruit salad or granola), plus one hot dish from everything offered.
First small menu is the normal breakfast package option.
2 diners present and accounted for.

Long black (large, no Barista tax) + oat hot chocolate.

Avocado toast (poached egg subbed with spinach)

Eggs Your Way
(my way - omelette) Yes, the Pepe Saya was soft enough to spread without tearing the toast...

This year’s Christmas dinner was a simple meal at the hotel restaurant. Mrsdrron had a pad Thai with chicken whilst I had a huge crispy pork knuckle with potatoes.

I was beaten.

Then back to our room and some Chilean wine. A Sav Blanc for Mrsdrron and a cab Sav for me. We are both happy with the wine.

We cheated this year and got a hamper from our local restaurant called Bask. It was just the two of us as one son was in Prague en route to Iceland and the other was in Cairns (talk about temperature differences!). The hamper came with Rye bread and almond butter (absolutely sensational!), slow cooked lamb shoulder (cryovaced and just needed to be reheated) with potatoes and beans and to finish off pavlova with cream and various fruits. We also started with some nice Karumba prawns.

Accompanied by a nice champers 🥂
