Jetstar Bali turnaround 'unsafe'

Gee this is a negative forum.

I posted this report as I was angry at the work practices Jetstar impose on their 'willing' crew. I put my name to it: Julius G, aka Julius Grafton. Paying Star Class passenger of Jetstar.

Then we have a bunch of sliver, platinum, FF numbats saying 'it's all OK, crew can rest, crew can work'. Like you care?

One tosser says 'OK, the crew can pull out of the flight at 0400 in Denpassar, The airline will pay their costs (and the passengers).'

Get real.

Challenge, soft guys. Come and get me. Rydalmere, Sydney. Anytime.

1. Any of you ever done any REAL shift work? Know ANYTHING about OH&S?

2. The cost of one aborted flight (the crew pull the plug in in Denpassar) probably exceeds the annual cost of slipping the crew there! Do the math!

Honestly, I've lodged a report with CASA, and written to Jetstar.

I am with the crew.

Some of you guys are soft office workers who treat aircrew as servants.

Suck eggs.

I wouldn't say negative - merely pointing the facts. don't be upset that the facts don't meet your expectations.

oh and BTW I understand long days, I've worked 20+ hours in a day before and yes it is hard work, but sometimes that is what has to be done..

Pretty offensive post IMHO, generally the community here is not a "rent a crowd" happy to side on whatever issue is the flavor of the day, you can expect and will get different opinions based on what data has been provided, but as most if not all of us where not there to experience the problem, its hard for us to hear both sides of the story, I am sure the crew have lodged a complaint as well if there really is an issue, as you have been advised on PPrune, its legal for QF to go to 20 hours and AN used to do MEL-DPS return with one crew.

This FF "numbat" has done shiftwork and is well aware of the OH&S issues, as I was an air traffic controller, this "numbat" is also well aware of the capacity of CASA to provide dispensations to airlines when things dont go according to plan and the ability of the ATSB to investigate issues as they see fit according to the laws set down, from what I can tell there has been no laws broken, but thanks for the info, its another reason why I dont fly JQ .

The airline would pay for the crew and passenger's costs. No tossing about it!

I'm sorry, you might be a new member but that is just way off, I know a number of people on AFF who have upmost respect for their cabin crew and ground staff (myself included) whenever they fly. we all want to make their experience with us as good as our experience with them every single time we fly.

Doesn't sound like we treat them as servants to me

Josh:p

And B.T.W I'm a student not an office worker

Not sure what we would do when we met in Rydalmere?? Time to get over yourself pal. This is a internet forum and people come from a variety of backgrounds and have different levels of knowledge about how airlines operate. No need for attacks on peoples opinions. Comments such as "suck eggs" are not appropriate on this forum and those of us who are regulars here do not post in a manner such as yourself.

My experience with JQ to Bali is that the crews do turnaround and head back to OZ.

Interesting discussion.

I am sure if it was tech crew many would agree that 18 hours non stop is pushing the bounds of safety, given their responsibility.

In terms of cabin crew, they do have "rest" opportunities within that period, that mitigates the 18 hours to some degree.

When it comes to safety what are their responsibilities? (I ask this is analysing mode - I do not have experience here, so if there is more to add - please contribute)

It seems during regular operations - it is around pre-flight safety checks of the cabin, disarming doors etc, safety demonstrations and then securing the cabin prior to landing and during any disruptions during flight (such as turbulence). In all of these, the one area probably most impacted by fatigue is securing prior to landing.

Then there are emergency operations, I wonder if there is any research indicating how people cope in emergency situations when fatigued? My hunch is that adrenalin (coupled with training) would well and truly kick in to override any fatigue from 18 hours on duty, but whether this is true or not, I am not sure.

It's very "interesting" that this exact same topic/post has appeared on flyertalk, and pprune and now here...

A concerned passenger traveling...... who cares so much and knows about all these forums.....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Firstly the hours are legal, so get over it.
Secondly, Jetstar has a high staff turnover for a reason, staff will leave when they are sick of it.

Same as any job really! That's the sad state of the World now though!

Suprised the OP has never come back!
I don't think the turn over is really that bad for JQ, been atleast 1yr for JQi recruitment AFAIK.
