This is the business class menu on today’s Jetstar flight from MEL to SIN:

I thought it looked familiar - i.e. identical - to the menu I had last year on SYD-ICN. So I asked the flight attendant and she said it hasn’t changed in the 5 years she has worked for Jetstar. 😂

Is it perhaps time for JQ to update the menu, or are there so few frequent JQ J flyers that it just doesn’t really matter?
 
Errr… I was gonna say the same thing… it looked verrrryyy similar to a JQi meal i had to bangkok pre covid!! The only difference to bangkok was they had an additional starter that wasn’t vegetarian… sorry…pant based.

The second (lighter) meal options also haven’t changed in years. There’s a choice of a vegetable pie or quesadilla. This is the pie:

I didn’t mind the drinks list - the alcoholic ginger beer is a bit of a novelty.

How can they not change the menu after so long? That's so povo! At least change it every 6 months or so. Gosh!
 
If it works it works.
One of my local cafes I reckon hasn't changed its menu in 10 yrs, well other than the prices.

No celebrity chefs who needs to justify themselves with constant changes.

But I suspect you are right that there are less regular travellers in JQ J.

This is why I choose to fly Emirates or Singapore Airlines!

It’s not my first choice, but JQ J was not much more expensive than QF Y on the MEL-SIN route on the date I booked. The flight was fine, ran on time, and got me to where I was going safely.

Many people value the service Jetstar provides, and those who don’t are obviously free to choose other airlines. I’m not sure why you felt the need to post this comment.
 
What I'll give JQ in its defence is that any time I've flown in their J Class, the top ups have been pretty forthcoming as and when (with the exception of one flight, but I'm pretty sure that flight attendant didn't like anyone, so didn't take it personally), and it's a nice touch having proper ginger beer on the flights.

And, to be fair, the lamb shanks on every occasion I've had them were falling apart off the bone - so in that respect, knocks a lot of Qantas J meals I've eaten out of the water.

Exactly this. Jetstar is a low-cost airline, and they make no claims to be anything more than that.

By having a reliable menu that is available year-round, they avoid the additional costs associated with new menus and the administrative workload that comes with it, not to mention the moaning and groaning from regular flyers that they 'got rid' of favourite menu items.
 
I guess that's true. I do remember the lamb shank being rather good. Luckily for me, I don't fly JQi particularly often. Once a year, if that?
 
Adding in my part here:

Flight from SYD to ICN included the same 3 options as others have mentioned above: Lamb Shank, Salmon or the pasta. I ordered the lamb which was surprisingly tasty, the salad was excellent and the sourdough was really good. A surprisingly enjoyable airplane meal!

The second service was a snack. The options were a vegetarian pie or a quesadilla. though it was served with 4 hours of flight time still to go. Quesadilla tasted about as good as it looked..

On the return leg from ICN to SYD: I don't think they printed enough menus on this flight as the cabin attendant handed me one out prior to take off and took the order straight away, and then handed the same menu to the next passenger and so on.
Meal options included: Roasted chicken, fish or veggie noodles. I went for the chicken was again surprisingly good - though the peas were quite hard. (Bad pic here as the cabin was a little dark and I had already started the meal before remembering to take a snap).

Breakfast was also served on this flight as it was an overnight (no printed menus, the cabin attendant explained the menus to each passenger). No photos as I skipped this meal in favour of more shut eye. I have to say the entire cabin smelt like freshly baked croissants throughout this service.
 
My jetstar experiences are minimal. Flew once in Y to NZ, and swore "never again". Never have flown domestically. And only once in J, international, SYD (?) to HNL. At the time I was shocked at how coughty J was on Jetstar, but in fairness that was in a time I was doing zillions of J international on far more dignified carriers.

I would not hesitate to fly them in J these days for something like a positioning flight to get me out of Australia. And as for a 5 year old menu? I agree with those that say that if it works, why change it? In a way, lamb shanks are sort of appropriate - a cheaper cut of meat, but one that can be fine if done well :)

The original seating on the a330 was a little tight in star class - width-wise - at 7 abreast, but the food and beverage was remarkably good. Meals were to full domestic business class standard and the wine list included Champagne (now replaced by sparkling).

If you could get a bulkhead or 2D it was a reasonably sweet ride.
 
Well we are doing a flight to Europe next year for a cruise. booked the cruise 310 days out. wanted some time in the UK. Naturally at about 300 days out there was virtually no J awards. But there were 2 on a JQ flight 3 days before our preferred day. So we reluctantly ( ) decided to spend 3 days in Bangkok. there was some choice in awards to secondary points in the UK. We decided to fly into MAN as we are vising a friend in northern Wales.
So I know we would both be happy with that menu. certainly more than I was expecting from JQ.

Totally agree with you on the difficulties finding J award bookings to Europe. This will definitely become worse if the proposed Velocity changes under Qatar part-ownership come into effect with Ethiad being dropped as a partner and no Singapore codeshare flights to Europe. These changes will likely push some Velocity frequent flyers over to Qantas to compete for the already limited J reward seats...

Coming back to the topic, I think you will find the Jetstar flight perfectly fine. The seat is akin to long haul premium economy/domestic business - not a lie flat but perfectly fine for flights up to 10 or so hours. The crew onboard are always friendly in my experience and at minimum there is always at least 1 crew member in the galley (with more crew joining during meal service times) to look after the business class cabin which is only 19 passengers as 2 seats are blocked off as a crew rest. You can ask for more drinks and snacks at any time and (depending on the proactiveness of the crew) they are generous with drink refills.
 
It's the soft product (food and unlimited beverages and service) that make Jetstar Business (though personally preferred the Starclass moniker) a cut above Scoot Plus and AirAsia Premium (even though AirAsia has a much better hard product)
