Jetstar sale now on... book for the next four days - lots of dates.

ExMEL (for example) to Bali $399, SIN $399, Tokyo $599 and HNL $799 (bangkok, osaka similar sale prices).

For SIN, it's $399 exMEL and $371 for the return, giving roundtrip for $770. This arrives into SIN to connect with the UL flights to Europe, which can be picked up for around AUD2100. (Total fare ~2900 possible to CDG for example, and beats having to fly economy to SIN!)

Pity UL doesn't have a 25% off sale atm :(

Great find. Singapore J return for $800 would yield what, 240 SC?

Edit: You have to be joking - adding the bundle to get the SC totals $900 extra return!

Even worse when I checked out Fly 7th October return 9 October it was $1000.00 return.

Re: jetstar 'business' class sale! Lots of dates... combine with UL/QR/AY for cheap E

Just for interest checked QF J same dates and came in around $3300 then checked Y on QF with baggage etc and it is $582.00 return all in. JQ same dates in Y with bundle both ways baggage meals and comfort pack comes to $688.00 return. What joke :)

Re: jetstar 'business' class sale! Lots of dates... combine with UL/QR/AY for cheap E

That is the trick with the JQ business bundle. Expensive. Still 240 SC at $6-$7 per SC is better than you'll do on most domestic Qantas flights. Better than QF business or economy on the same route.

If flying to CDG, checking the UL loads with ExpertFlyer or KVS might be well worth it, as UL upgrade bidding can be very useful. On the other hand LHR loads may be more intimidating.

It seems when JQ has a business sale, the business bundle mysteriously jumps in price.

good point. I'm not sure I'm that courageous however!

But... how does the upgrade thing work? Sector by sector? If so, the difference between economy and business class is about $1300 for the round-trip (SIN-CDG). I'm guessing $100+ to upgrade the SIN-CMB sectors, and then at least $250 for the CMB-CDG sectors?

I think Fred means buy Y and bid for an upgrade, ending up with a J seat at vastly less expense than paying for J upfront.

Yes sector by sector, the minimums on the short legs are normally about $US100, CDG is I remember was US$400. So if you are willing to sit in Y on the 3 hour flights, the long haul in J becomes a better deal.

Yes the good old days are long gone of purchasing a sale Y fare on JQ, purchasing an upgrade at checkin for $250 to Star Class then copping the J SC's....it was fun while it lasted...sigh.

I'm sure that's the reason they'd give too, but it still doesn't sit well. You're not getting any different benefits between a sale to business max upgrade or a standard fare to business max upgrade so the upgrade itself shouldn't cost more because the sale is lower.

It's actually a furphy of an excuse. You buy two items from Jetstar - a business Fare and a Bundle. The Max Bundle not being on sale does not explain why that bundle has increased in price massively. If the Max bundle isn't on sale then it should be the same price as normal.

Re: jetstar 'business' class sale! Lots of dates... combine with UL/QR/AY for cheap E

Exactly - the price of Max fare generally does not change during a sale.

Lets say normally a basic business fare is $800 and the business Max fare is $1000 - when you select the basic fare you are offerred to change to the Max fare for the price difference of $200.

During a sale, the business sale fare may be $399 but the business Max fare is still $1000 - when you select the sale fare you are now offerred to change to the Max fare for the price difference - but this is now $601.

That's not exactly what I wrote. One would buy a business fare in both cases, but in one situation add a Max Bundle. You are buying an add on bundle, not business max fare.

I don't know what the official explanation is, but the explanation Serfty has provided does make sense. It seems the name of Bundle is a misnomer as it is more of a top up payment to the next fare level hence the dynamic nature of its pricing.

Re: jetstar 'business' class sale! Lots of dates... combine with UL/QR/AY for cheap E

Yes its like booking J class (full fare biz, but displays on website as with bundle)) or Z class (discount business but shows on site as no bundle ) . Z class is on sale. J class remains the same. Z class is a non earning ff class.

I misunderstood you then.

Qantas do promote it as an add on but thats not how it generally works.

The fare that comes with "flexibility", SC's etc. is $1000 in my example.

If the sale fare is $399 ... the fare difference is $601 ...
