Hey guys,

I'm looking at booking the following itinerary on JQ -

SYD-MEL JQ
MEL-SIN JQ
SIN-KUL 3K

If I book this on a Business Max fare (which will only apply to the MEL-SIN leg), will the other two legs earn Qantas Points/SC at a max bundle rate?

I'm confused because I'm allowed to pick extra legroom seats, which are only free on a max bundle, but I don't get a meal.

My gut feeling is that the economy legs won't earn at all, considering that the additional cost of adding the economy legs don't add up to close to two max bundles.

Thanks

Your gut feeling is correct, the economy legs are a starter fare. You get free seat selection and business class baggage allowance for the entire itinerary though.

Great, thanks for the confirmation.

I suppose then I need to go via a TA to book the individual legs together in the same booking so that baggage is checked through.

It's a pity that JQ makes this difficult, but I understand that for most people, this is probably the preferred option.

No need to book through a TA, Jetstar will connect your bags on international-to-international connections.

For you, that means you collect your bags in MEL and recheck them at international for your MEL-SIN-KUL flights. Your bag will be tagged through to KUL. When you arrive in SIN you'll be in transit and don't need to do anything:
*You’ll be issued boarding passes for your connecting flight when you check in for your first international departure, so you won’t need to go through immigration and customs in Singapore. Any checked baggage will be automatically transferred onto your next flight.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I believe Jetstar will connect bags only if all connections are on the same booking?

So, if I want to book the economy legs on a max fare for SCs, I will need to do this via a TA, since on Jetstar.com we cannot "force" the economy legs to be on a max fare.

Edit: unless there is a way to do so that I haven't discovered...

Oh sorry, I get what you mean. Yeah that's right... Jetstar could probably do it on the phone for you as well :)

The int->int part is ok, but I don't think they transfer bags on the dom->int connection.
Thanks for the info - yep I don't mind not getting transfers on the dom->int connection, but at least the connection (should) be protected if it's on the same booking!

I started a live chat on Jetstar to see if they could book the economy leg with a Starter Max fare.

They said that it's not possible even for the contact centre, but they also said that the economy leg will earn Points and SCs at Business rates?

This makes 0 sense to me, but I guess if I keep a chat transcript, I could go through the hassle of claiming the missing SCs... 🤷‍♂️
