Change to J carry on, max 7kg per bag

New limits for business class carry on from 25 November. Previously you could take on 2 x 10 kg bags now the limit has been enhanced to 2 x 7 kg bags.

More information here: Carry-on Baggage | Jetstar

One wonders if pax with current tickets will be advised of the changes?

Re: Change to J carry on, max 7kg per bag

...and economy pax can now bring 7 kg as opposed to 10kg ;(

Re: Change to J carry on, max 7kg per bag

Similar for Y, also limited to 7 kg.

You can take one "personal item" in addition to a bag in Y, but total must be 7 kg.

Re: Change to J carry on, max 7kg per bag

I suppose this will bring it in line with other airlines. The 10kg limit for carry-on luggage on JQ has always been a generous but an anomaly.

The weight limits seem to have little to do with safety too. Size is much more important (that it can fit in a locker or under a seat).

So it's mainly a money boosting exercise.

7kg for a combined weight limit of main bag + small piece (eg. laptop, handbag, duty free shopping) is vey very strict.

Re: Change to J carry on, max 7kg per bag

Years ago when Jetstar first started, it had a limit of 7kg. Then one day when Alan Joyce (then CEO of JQ) realised that it was near impossible to do a HLO business trip, with an extra pair of shoes in tow, and stay under 7kg, he famously raised it to 10kg. Obviously he doesn't feel the need to fly JQ anymore!

Re: Change to J carry on, max 7kg per bag

so JQ/VA/QF will have the same 7kg allowance...fly TIGER..they still have the 10 kg limit..maybe that's part of JBs plan

There's a rider:
...

Any passengers who made their flight booking before 28th October 2014 may bring up to 10kg (except passengers travelling domestically in Vietnam on Jetstar Pacific (BL), whose weight limit remains at 7kg).

Re: Change to J carry on, max 7kg per bag

There will be blood in the streets if the JQ police check the weight of bags at the Gate on D Day.

Disappointing news, as I travel about 50/50 JQ & QF...... With most of my JQ domestic flights purchased as a Starter plus bundle without Baggage allowance.
But In All honestly, the sky won't fall in & I suspect that TT will follow suit in due course.

Indeed. Half of that weight would go just in the bag and the laptop.

Suggestion: wear a coat and/or pants with big pockets.

What about FR and EZY?

And what about larger pax? Why should I be penalised (as I don't weight a lot)?

What about FR and EZY)?

Never flown FR but I do like EZY approach - hand luggage is volume limited with strictly only one piece allowed. No weight limit. Can take a lot more than 7 kg.

Unfortunately not a competitor to JQ. I wonder if the entry of Air Asia to the Bali market triggered this downwards revision to 7kg, or whether that was just a coincidence ;-)

Even if there's no bloodshed, there will certainly be tears before bedtime. ;)

I don't understand why this is so hard. People stop bringing the kitchen sink onboard and just conform to the very simple rules, what is difficult about that ? If you have more or bigger than allowed, check it in, end of story.

How light can the new generation carry-on bag can weigh these days?

Jetstar fliers cannot afford laptops so that would not be a problem for them ;)

You can thank those who have abused the process and pushed the envelope.
How Many times have I boarded a J* flight , complied with the restrictions, only to see other greedy/ selfish pax with more carry on luggage than I have in the hold !? Good move I say .
