A public relations coup:rolleyes: for JQ

the headlined comment allegedly by a FA made to 60 year old on CHC-MEL flight

The sin was asking could they put the carryon a bit closer than the other end of the plane.

Letters: 'If you don't like it, get off the f---ing plane'

PAX apparently was not mollified by the offer of a $7 travel voucher.

I’d have taken the details of nearby pax who overheard the comment, and made a complaint. If they wanted to fight, I’m sure sworn statements of what happened would be useful in court, but that’s just disgraceful.

Though similarly, if I was in the front row I would get there quicker, knowing the overhead bins fill up quickly.

Heh, someone was having a bad day. I was waiting for the bit where the FA slid down the inflatable slide and stormed off.

Disgraceful indeed. So much for customer service! The $7 voucher just topped it off.

:ROLL EYES: Yeah right...

That letter would sit quite nice along side Elvis sightings in Sydney, and Julia Monotone is and alien... hmmmm, alien eh?

Why would you end up in court over that?

Good to see JQ FA's taking control of a potentially dangerous situation.

Perhaps one day JQ staff will learn what customer service is all about....

I dunno, sounds like fair comment to me. Imagine having to work for JQ. And deal with their customers. Shudder...

Hmmm.A frequent flyer in Row 1 on JQ who boarded last and expected an empty bin above him.would be interesting to hear the FA's story.

I was a domestic JQ customer today. (imagine the poor FA having me on board). ;) I actually picked 3D over 1F because of the overhead locker, or lack thereof, situation and giving up extra leg room.

It's really a bit of a coughpy thing of LCCs charging for front row seats when they are actually a lot worse in terms of overhead, given that any luggage has to be stored.

Today between me getting on first and 1F being right behind some of the people in rows 2 and 3 had to store luggage back at row 6. Didn't help having an FA put their case in the overhead as well, which was right on the size limit.

Was this passenger a 'fail to board' also? There's always one person that thinks they're more important than the other 176 pax onboard the aircraft.

I don't see why they couldn't have stowed the carry on down the back somewhere then brought it make to him once the crew were released out of their seats after landing and before the a/c arrived at the terminal. It sounds like they were trying to teach him a lesson.

I can't believe an F/A would fly off the handle like that unless there was more said by the pax which I'm sure there was. I think the pax in this case is withholding more info of what was actually said.

I don't for a minute condone what the F/A said to the pax though.

I have had JQ FAs do this for me, but only on about 1 out of every 10 flights. Given the amount of airline stuff in the front O/H lockers, + the extra charge for front rows, I don't see why this isn't S.O.P. at JQ. [IME Jetstar staff are normally pretty good at proactive customer service, I'm even getting schmoozed a bit more at both check-in and onboard*. Excluding MEL T2!]

* I also receive an emailed customer service questionnaire after every flight. (First it was a few surveys per year, then one every few flights, and now after every single flight I am asked to rate the customer service/experience that I received from check-in to in-flight.)

There's a basic problem with letters to the Editor. They are unverified assertions of the letter writer. As noted previously, virtually guaranteed to be selective quotes, we don't know what the PAX said, how late they got on (other than late) and how big the bag was.

In particular the FAs alleged use of cough* in a planeload of passengers seems pretty implausible, except in the case of someone about to exit via the slide:D

[Do any DYKWIAs fly with JQ - I note a lack of correlation between self perceived importance and actual importance in many cases:D]

I can't say I have much sympathy for this numskull...being the last pax to board and expecting the FA's to pull off a miracle by finding space further fwd.

Clearly there must have been other words exchanged because I've been flying JQ quite often of late (I can no longer be bothered driving the 1-1.5 hrs to BNE to fly QF so fly JQ ex OOL) and am always in Row 1 and find the FA's extremely accommodating and they usually have the first couple of bins closed so there's space.

Sounds like he kept pushing and pushing and the FA blew a fuse (which I would have done also).

Perhaps it'll teach him to board more promptly next time.

I particularly light the comment about QF16 not having enough fuel to make LAX-BNE non-stop. I highly doubt that QF would deliberately not put enough fuel on just for the sake of it.

So let me counter this story with one of the few JQ flights I have taken that was also trans-tasman. Got onboard relatively late with a small backpack, seated 1C. Knowing what would happen jokingly asked if there would be any room above before even looking. The lead FA simply asked me to hand it to him, he had a stash of a few bags + duty free from pax in the front row. Once everyone had boarded he proceeded to pack our bags into an empty food trolley. Was also happy to unload them after landing between disarming the door and opening it.

Fearing this is against procedure I didn't contact JQ about it. After reading about so many poor customer service incidents on the airline I was mightily surprised from it. I was not expecting real service for it is a LCC, point A to B etc. but somebody taking initiative and a proactive commonsensical approach (to a no doubt a very common issue) was a great positive.

I thought there was a negative correlation ;) Much like the Dunning–Kruger effect.

I suspect there's more to this story than meets the eye.
Just like the Tiger passengers who turn up late and then demand to be put on the flight, or are 20kg over their luggage weight and they demand to be waived of the baggage fees.
Some people are just never wrong and unfortauntely take it it ouit on people only doing their job.
I'd say there was some selectiving reporting on what really went on.
However, for the FA to say that is just plain unprofessional and not on.
I suspect both people were in the wrong.
