It doesn't say they can't sit in the seat (I haven't looked though all the FAR's).

BUT...does it say anything about cleaning instruments!!!

Seriously, though, thanks for input from someone with some pilot know how! Much appreciated and much to learn...;)

Gotta go - dog stolen and chewing on my dirty gym wear (don't ask!!!)

Maybe the captain decided to 'cross-dress' into the FA uniform and continue the flight?

Anyone else concerned by the text stating level flight and 250 knots, if that was indeed the case (and obviously crikey have higher res versions of the photo that allow them to do a closer examination of the controls), then the aircraft would be below stall speed at altitude above 10000 ft and I cannot imagine the crew being that casual or having a reason to be cruising below 10000!

I suspect if indeed the aircraft is showing an IAS of 250kts then in fact we are looking at a sim photo of an aircraft setup to do an approach, and looking at the charts that could well be one into Darwin. Why would their be a cabin crew member in a sim, maybe they were on a training course, it will be interesting to see the truth.

I hadn't thought it about it a lot, but do remember thinking that it sounded a bit on the slow side.

Sorry guys but I don't entirely agree.

With the info we have it's impossible to work out exact numbers but suggest you look at the link I've attached. It's entirely possible, if not normal to have low IAS at altitude as this translates to a reasonable TAS and a reasonable Mach No. http://www.tscm.com/mach-as.pdf

No problems and you have raised a valid argument, without access to the high res image our thoughts are just conjecture, it will be interesting if the truth does come out!

I dont know what all the fuss is about.I have a photo of a 4 year old in the Captains seat of an AA jet and using all the controls.Well it was at the gate in MIA.

Also today flying AA MIA-LGA the first officer came out to go to the lav and the FA went into the coughpit and locked the door until First officer was ready to take his place again,so the roles were once again reversed.

From my experience that is normal. ... and they use the catering trolley to block the way forward whilst the coughpit door is open.
